Exercising Your Dog in the Snow

Has your dog ever been in the snow?  Most active dogs love it!  They are like kids, romping and running in the fresh powder. There are, however, a few things that you need to know if you plan on taking Fido on a snow vacation, especially if they are not used to the cold. 1/ Be diligent with your dog’s feet.  The snow can get stuck in between the pads and cause cuts and damage so check them often and dry them off after coming indoors.   You can apply petroleum jelly to protect their feet from drying and cracking. Book of the month: Born to Bark

Stanley Coren’s books have always been my “first love” with regard to books on dog history and behavior. I own and have read every single one of them, and use them often for reference. The author never ceases to regale me with tidbits about dogs throughout history, and each book teaches me something I didn’t know. Born to Bark, a personal account of the author’s life and relationship with Cairn terrier, Flint, is no different. In this book, the author steps deeper into his storytelling role, welcoming the reader into his own personal life and sharing memoirs about every dog

Iron Mountain Hike 2012

Another beautiful and fun hike this weekend on Iron Mountain.  What a fun group! We did 6 miles in record breaking time!  Us dogs had such a grand time running around and I even showed my friends where the hidden spring was.  It even had a little water in it but not too much mud–bummer! The view from the top was amazing but the best part was Aunt Cathy made her Ginger Treats for us dogs and they were YUM YUM YUM!! As a matter of fact, they were so YUM that our mommies were eating them all!  Can you

Dog Parks: Are they safe?

Dog Parks: Are they safe?

True story:  A couple in their 20’s got a puppy. When the puppy turned 4 months their vet told them to take the puppy to the dog park to “socialize” him.  They had never had a dog before so of course they listened to their vet and took the puppy to the local dog park.  The puppy was attacked by another dog, the puppies mom jumped in to break it up and got bit pretty bad.  They had to rush the puppy home and put him in his crate and then go to the hospital so the girl could get
