Back Exercise

Most people work their “mirror muscles” with bicep curls and pushups.  It is crucial to also work your back to get it strong.  Your back is used so much in every day life.  When it is weak, it creates an imbalance in your body.  Just think about your posture for a minute. If your chest muscles and shoulders are tight from sitting at a desk all day or doing pushups, you are going to be rounded forward.  When your back is strong, that helps to keep you walking upright! Mix Things Up

Mix Things Up

This is a really fun drill to do with your dog.  You can do it anywhere!  A tennis court or a field work great.  We do them in baseball fields in our Leash Your Fitness classes. Remember that when you make your dog think, it tires him/ her faster than just a walk alone.  There is nothing that makes your dog think more than switching things up. To do this drill, start by walking forward with Fido.  Then switch things up! Start running or walking backwards.  Fido will be like where are we going?   Then switch things up again

Do you have any stairs near you?  We are lucky, we have them at a lot of our parks in San Diego.  Any amount of stairs will do but the longer the better. Running or walking the stairs is a great cardio and leg workout.  I like to add an exercise at the top each time.  If there is a table, you can add pushups, dips, tricep pushups or anything that you want.
