Valentines with your Furry Friend

We LOVE spending Valentines Day with our furry friends.  At Leash Your Fitness, we had a jam packed weekend of fun and active ways to wear off the box of chocolates.

It all started Saturday morning with 25 dogs on a hike / run that started at the West Sycamore Canyon Trailhead.  We had something for every fitness level!  A 4 mile hike that had beautiful views of the canyon below.  A 5 mile hike that had a challenging climb toward the end.  A 6 mile trail run that included all of the above plus a cool section with lots of beautiful trees.  It was a very hot morning so we started super early so the dogs were safe on the trails because  the dogs overheat when it is too hot out.   (its ALL about the dogs!)

All three groups finished at the same time and went for a dog friendly brunch at Main Stream Bar and Grill to celebrate Lori and Tinks’ birthdays.  We took over the patio!  We like to exercise AND celebrate!

Sunday we had a choice of fun things to do!  Our Valentines class is always a LOVEly time and we combined it with our Presidents Day class.  The participants had to do special exercise rhymes like Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, give me 20 pushups and I will Love You!!  Anything to make exercise fun, right!?  While exercising, the class got a little president dog  trivia and the one who guessed the correct President got a cool prize.  Did you know that six Presidents have had Pitbulls?  Who says working out can’t make you smarter?

We also invited everyone to bring their LOVED ONE for FREE all weekend so it was fun to get the men and kids involved in the fun. We had entire families come out to get fit with their pups!

WarmUp1-225x400On Sunday, we also had a team for the Paws Fur Pink 5k to help fundraise for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.  It was a beautiful day by the water at Liberty Station!  Before our runners and walkers took to the fast and flat course, Team Leash Your Fitness got to warm up the crowd with some marching, jumping jacks, and lunges.  The 2- and 4-legged racers were definitely excited and ready to go when the race began!

It was a beautiful course along the water and we couldn’t have asked for a prettier day!

We saw some fun costumes along the way, too! Lots of pups were dressed up to show their support for the cause and in some cases their survivor mommies.  There was even a costume contest!

After our racers were back they were able to enjoy some shopping and socializing at the event booths.  It was a great day to show our love for our doggie Valentines!
