We packed up early from Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park to miss the St Louis morning traffic. It worked because it was an easy drive. We headed to mommy’s friends fitness studios. Mommy is a member of the Todd Durkin Mastermind Group so she has fitness friends all over the country.
Traveling through the midwest is REALLY hot so she stopped and let me swim on the way. She rewards me like that for being such a good travel dog!
We arrived at Jill’s Excel Wellness Studio in Overland Park around 1 p.m. It was so fun for mommy to see her friend and her very bright studio. I liked it because it was cool! Man! It is HOT in these Midwest states! They chatted over lunch and then we were off for Mendy’s house.
Mendy lives in Liberty, Missouri which is north of Kansas City and Jill was south of Kansas City so it worked out perfect! We got to visit Mendy’s Fit By Burn studio as well. Mommy loves visiting her friends all over the country. Its really fun for us to see the “behind the scenes” on how people live.
The Mendy stop was an adventure! She has 5 kids, three boys of her own and she adopted 2 girls from Africa plus she has a puppy that is constantly getting into trouble.
Her kids had a lot going on that night so mommy decided to be the “soccer mom” in the RV!! We picked up the dog from the vet, took her daughter to dance, her son to his baseball game and her other son to a sleepover. The kids loved riding around in the RV and showing it off.
It is fun and crazy for us to see how people with kids manage their busy schedules. We can’t even imagine and we give all of the mom’s out there a BIG kudos!
After all of that, mommy and Mendy did get to go out to dinner and take me. Mendy didn’t even know that the Bell was dog friendly! That is what we are here for! To show people that you can take your dogs with you everywhere! Even to dinner!
It was too hot for us to sleep in the RV, so we got to stay in Mendy’s beautiful house that her handsome husband, Dennis built.
The next morning we were off to a new state and guess which one? KANSAS!! Home of Toto from the Wizard of OZ! This is my 33rd state that I have been in!
We took the back roads through all of the small Kansas towns to Wamego to visit the Wizard of Oz museum. It was pretty cool. They of course loved me since I am the same breed as Toto, a Cairn Terrier.
I got to go into the museum to which was a good thing because it was way to hot to stay in the RV so mommy would not have went. If you take your dog there, you have to carry them or push them in a wheelchair. Too funny!
There are a few things that we learned, remember that the Wizard of Oz was made is 1939 so it is very old! First was that there were 116 “little people” in the movie and they did not use any kids to fill in. We also learned that the tin man had powder all over his face to make it silver. The powder ended up causing the actor to get emphysema from all of the rehearsals and he ended up in the hospital in an oxygen tent for 6 weeks and never got to star in the movie! The replacement used a silver makeup instead of the powder and got it in his eye and got an eye infection!
The other cool thing that we learned is that they used a special material to make the tornado and they pulled it with a car! Crazy stuff! We got to sit in the basket that took Dorothy back to Kansas! And then we left…
It was a cool stop and broke up the very boring drive through Kansas! Kansas is worse than Texas. There is nothing to look at and it is very flat so have a good audio book if you plan on driving through that state! We knew that we had a BIG carrot on the other end-COLORADO!! Which is our favorite state.
We stayed in a Subway parking lot near a truck stop that night because mommy was tried of driving. It was ironic because just like the Wizard of OZ, it was a very windy night and we thought our RV was going to blow over the hillside! It was so windy that Spirit was rocking! There was a really cool lighting storm too! It was pretty crazy!
The next day we were off to Colorado. Stay tuned because we have some great adventures to share with you from our favorite state! Soooo…..
