Hood River, Oregon

We were sad to leave Bend, OR but we kind of had to because of the solar eclipse.  We had to get through a small farm town called, Madras where supposedly is the best place to watch the eclipse.

So we left Gina’s beautiful house at 6 a.m. and headed north.  Mommy made a wrong turn and ended up right in the middle of the farm camp.  A farmer cleared 65 acres and was renting “camp spaces” for people to watch the eclipse.  They had buses, porta potties and a lots of tents set up.  One field was for tents and one was for RV’s. It was crazy!

The drive up the 26 is so beautiful, especially when you reach Mt Hood.

We arrived at mommy’s friends house and it was non stop for 2 days.  We did so much stuff.  First we went to hood river and saw the Wind Surfers & Kite Boarders.  If you have never been there, it is really cool.  The wind is world class so it brings people from all over the world here.

Then we went to Laurance Lake and went SUPing.  It was almost as windy there so mommy got a great workout trying to keep up with her friend Jen.  The views were spectacular AND we saw four otters in the lake!

After we got done SUPing, we got to go see a pear orchard.  We have seen lots of apple orchards but never a pear one.  They looked so good, mommy wanted to pick one but they weren’t ripe yet.  We learned something.  Pears never ripen on the tree.

Since we couldn’t eat any pears, we went into Parkdale and had dinner at this really cool place called Solera Brewery  where I was allowed to run off leash with the other dogs while mommy ate with her friends.

It was a busy day!  We got to camp in Jen’s yard with a SPECTACULAR view!

The next day, Jen brought mommy a fresh bowl of peaches for breakfast.  They had nutmeg on them and mommy said that they were delicious!

Then, we went hiking to a beautiful waterfall called Tamanawas falls.  It was a perfect hike for me.

It was 2 miles to the falls and the trail was mostly flat with a few rocks. Ok, there was a rockslide that we had to hike over but mommy carried me over most of that.

The water must have been really high earlier this year because one of the bridges was wiped out!

It was a really fun hike and I would highly recommend it if you are in the area.  It was perfect!

After the hike, we went back to Jen’s and mommy met Jen’s neighbors.  She has a herd of  longhorn yearlings that mommy was trying to pet.

The heifers were nicer, they let her feed them and even tried giving mommy kisses with their sand paper tongue.

Then guess where we went?  Mommy got to pick blueberries!  This is like the fruit mecca!  Peaches for breakfast and blueberries for lunch!

Mommy went swimming in the afternoon with Jen and the kids and they allowed me to join them.  I even got to hang out in the raft.  Jen’s German Shepard, Ginger, was not too happy that I was allowed to go and she wasn’t.  Sorry, Ginger.  You are too big to get out!

It was another fun day!  Wait until you hear this! We woke up the next day to a visit from one of the cows!   It got loose and came to visit us! I don’t know what it is with mommy and cows but they are always attracted to her!  We had to help Jen and her husband herd it back into the pasture.  It was so funny!

After that excitement, mommy got to teach her doggy fitness class to the pet parents in Hood River.  We had a super fun group of people come to the class.  Jen’s business, Peak Fitness NW was the co-host and it was a fundraiser for Hood River Adopt a Dog.

Everyone had a great time and it was fun to see the dogs enjoy their time bonding with their parents.  Their parents were surprised that their “farm dogs” did so well!

After class, mommy and I went back to Hood River to see my cousin, Andrew who came over to see us from Portland.  He had never met me!  He seemed like a cool guy so I allowed him to hold me for a minute!

Mommy and Andrew got kombucha tea and coconut ice cream from Gorge Ice Cream.  Mommy said it was so good and highly recommends checking it out if you are ever in Hood River.

The sunset was so beautiful on our evening walk.  What a treat to get to see this every day!

It has been so fun in Hood River.  We even got a morning workout in before we left at Peak Fitness NW. It was so awesome working out in the studio…

And running with these beautiful views!

The Grand Finale was watching the eclipse from a hammock!

What a great time we had in Hood River with our friends.  I think Ginger and Denali were happy to see me leave though!  They were very tolerant while I was there though.  Denali is 14 years young and still out hiking with his family.  So inspiring to the rest of us dogs!
