Bend, Oregon

We have been busy on our first few days of our PNW road trip.  We left Lake Shasta and drove to West South Twin Lake outside of Bend, Oregon on our second day!  There are so many lakes in Oregon that we didn’t know where to stay so our friends suggested this one and it didn’t disappoint.

We arrived around 2 p.m. and it was REALLY windy.  Our campsite (#18) was right on the water so you know where I headed!

The water was MUCH colder than at Lake Shasta but I went swimming anyhow.  I don’t care.

After my swim, I chased a few squirrels until my paw pads were full of tree sap so mommy had to dig it all out.  FYI, coconut oil works great to get the sap out!  Mommy put my booties on me and we went for a hike around the lake.

The water was a little lower so we had a big beach to walk on.  It was so much fun.  There were people camped in the trees all around the lake. Mommy was really bummed that she paid for a site on line when we could have camped for free.  They call that dispersed camping and we do a lot of it.

It was a really pretty walk and we met a lot of people along the way.

We got back in time to watch the sunset over the lake.

I have to say, I slept REALLY good that night. I was so tired from my first two days of vacation. I am not a young pup anymore but I do my best to keep up with mommy!

We got up early the next day to get out on the lake before the wind picked up again like it did yesterday.  We had the entire lake to ourself!  It was so smooth!

We were only going to go out for a bit but mommy ended up paddling 7 miles!  We paddled all of the way down to Wickiup Reservoir.   I got to go swimming a few times along the way.

We even saw two baby deer chasing each other and playing. It was so cool.  It pays to get up early!

It was a great morning but we had to get going because there is a Solar Eclipse happening in a few days and even though it is quiet and peaceful here, we hear that it is crazy in Bend and that they are running out of gas!  We have to go fill Spirit up so we can head to Hood River to see our friend, Jen and teach a doggy fitness class with her in a few days.  So we went back to camp.  Mommy stretched out and rolled her back out on the picnic table while I chased a few more squirrels.

We took off toward Bend and got gas.  There was no line and we were bummed that we rushed there and didn’t stop at all of the beautiful areas on the way.  So we found another park close to  our friends house near Redmond.  Tumalo State Park is a fee park and mommy refused to pay since there are so many free areas plus there were a zillion kids there.   We parked down the street and took the trail along the river there to check it out.  It really wasn’t what we wanted anyhow since the water was pretty swift and shallow.  It was pretty though so we hung out for a bit and mommy read a few chapters of her book.

We ended the day with our friend Gina, her boyfriend and their 2 Ridgebacks.  They cooked mommy a delicious meal. They just bought a beautiful house here and mommy is jealous.  She loves this area.

Tomorrow we are off to Hood River to see our other friend and find some adventure there! Stay tuned!
