Full Moon Hike up Black Mountain

hiking black mountain

Last nights Full Moon Hike up Black Mountain in San Diego was so much fun!!  We began the hike at 7:10 p.m. and got to see the sunset on the way up the mountain.  It was a BEAUTIFUL night and we were hiking above the fog.  Half way up the mountain we stopped at Night Hawk Trail to re-group and we heard a “buzzing” noise.  It turns out it was a family of rattlesnakes under a rock and they were talking to us.  It is very important that while hiking you are aware of your surroundings and don’t let your dog out of your site or off of the trail. Rattlesnakes are not to be messed with and you should be aware that they ARE on the trails. It is best to keep your dog on leash, especially in the summer.

After our group was all together again and all dogs were on leash, we continued up Black Mountain to the very top.  It was a clear night with tons of stars.  The dogs had to stay on leash as we all brought food for our potluck under the stars. They would have LOVED to share our food but Miss Cathy was nice enough to make homemade peanut butter dog treats for our furry friends.

We had so much food!! Everything from homemade quinoa & lentil salad, fruit kabobs, vegetables and hummus, chips and guacamole and homemade granola bars and cookies!! Howy even brought wine in his little running water bottles and they drank it out of the starbucks cups that Ana brought with her hot coffee! It was a FIESTA!!  We watched the orange full moon rise and it was so BIG!!

What a fun night and a Grand Finale hike as we will be starting our water sports in June!! Stay tuned for kayaking and surfing with the dogs!!

Enjoy the photos, Jack’s mommy had to write the blog today as Jack is still resting!
