Jacks Journey continues and now we are heading west. If you are new to our journey, WELCOME! We have met so many cool people along the way. If you want to see how this adventure started, you can go HERE, if you already know or don’t care, then just enjoy the ride…..
It was sad to leave our friends in Camden but it was time to head west. I have now been in 31 states including Maine! I still have a few more to add to my travel resume on this journey!
Our destination is the White Mountains in New Hampshire. We left Camden on Saturday and it was supposed to rain on Monday so we weren’t sure what to expect. We just started driving and would figure it out on the way, that is what we do sometimes. We passed Liberty State Park and was just going to stay there since it was on a beautiful lake and it was getting warm and we really wanted to SUP in Maine but the lady directed us to Sebago State Park which was closer to our destination so we drove the 1 ½ hours there. I was super excited to go swimming!
We finally arrived, it seemed like it took forever and the guy at the gate told us the dreaded words that we hate to hear “NO DOGS“! WHAT??? I was out of control excited at this point so mommy had to do something so she drove back down the road and found the nearest campground, Sebago Crooked River Campground. It was really nice, but we weren’t sure if it would work with the SUP so we walked down to the river to check it out. OMG!! What a beautiful river with hardly any current! PERFECT! We were sold! So we paid and immediately inflated the SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard)!!
Our new neighbors were very intrigued by our RV so they came over to see what was up. Annabelle and TJ and their dog, Duncan ended up being super cool!! They were in the Army and from the area. We ended up hanging out with them for the next 2 days! It is funny how things work out!
They rented a kayak and we had our SUP and we took a little paddle on the river. They got on the SUP and tried it out and were both naturals. It was getting late so we headed back to camp but not before they tried out the SUP!
We asked them why they didn’t bring Duncan on their kayak and their reply was typical, he doesn’t like the water. Little do people know that when their dog doesn’t like the water, that is even better! Dogs like me who LOVE the water want to jump out the entire time! If they don’t like the water, they usually will sit quietly and enjoy the ride!
They invited us over for dinner and mommy was excited that she got to eat real food. She just grazes all day when we are camping and I don’t think she has ever used the over in the RV. Not much of a cook! After dinner they had s’mores with peanut butter cups!! Crazy! This was our first camp fire and first s’more on our entire trip! Can you believe that?
The next day was BEAUTIFUL!! Mommy was so happy to be in shorts again, she even put on her bathing suit because we were going to spend the entire day on the Crooked River paddling down to Sebago Lake which is 5 miles away. After a delicious breakfast with Annabelle and TJ, we were on our way.
Annabelle and TJ decided to take Duncan this time and he did GREAT!! He sat in the kayak and was such a good boy. Mommy was jealous!
The paddle was so beautiful. This river is not very wide but there are boats on it! We even got to go into a lock! We met another couple that were paddling too so they hung out with us. It was super fun! We took our time and enjoyed the beautiful river.
When we go to the lake, it was HUGE! It is the second largest lake in Maine! The cool part was there was a sand bar so we paddled to it and got to hang out and have snacks and swim!
Duncan even got on the SUP and we got him to go in the water. A day of firsts for him. Duncan was a bait dog for Pitbull fighting and has the scars to prove it but you would never know. That dog is a real sweetheart and a lot of fun. We are happy that he got a good home with Annabelle and TJ because they love him a lot.
After our break on the sand bar we headed back. On the way down, mommy was telling Annabelle about all of the amazing things that keep happening to us. Even finding this campground when the other one didn’t allow dogs turned out to be a blessing! So Annabelle asked if we could use our “powers” to get a motor to take her back to camp on the way back. This was only their second time paddling and they were doing awesome!
Mommy used her powers! Our neighbor, Jane, who we had just met this morning at breakfast came by on her pontoon boat and mommy asked her if she could tow them back and she did!! It worked again!
Mommy and I paddled back and stopped a few times to go swimming. The water was cold but it felt really good. It was most cold after getting out!
We got back to camp and Annabelle and TJ had a late lunch ready for mommy! They are spoiling her and she is going to miss them. It was so fun to meet them and we are excited for their future together as they are getting married next year. I wonder if Duncan will be the best man?
After they packed up and left, mommy took a hot shower at the campground. She had never seen a shower room so pretty at a campground. She did laundry too and the laundry room was super nice as well. We scored when we found this campground and would highly recommend it. Just goes to show, sometimes spontaneous travel is the best way to go!
The next day we woke to a cloudy morning. Perfect for mommy to get some work done and then we were off to our next destination, going to continue our journey to the White Mountains. Wait till you see what we find there!
