Stay Fit Through the Holidays

Happy Monday, and week of Thanksgiving!  We know how hard it can be to stay on-track during the holiday season.  That is why here at Leash Your Fitness have put together a 6 week plan to help you make this year different: maintain or lose weight instead of gaining!!

The schedule and description of the exercises are below, but if you want extra support and NUTRITION goals along with this for even more success, then check out our online Fitness Challenge HERE!  We promise it will help guide and support you in your healthy living goals, especially during this extra challenging time of year!

INSTRUCTIONS: Each day, add the activity shown to your daily dog walk, either before, during, or after.  Fido can practice their sit/stay while you complete each exercise which is always great obedience practice!  Plus by including your pup, they won’t feel the holiday slump either, which keeps everybody happy!

Holiday Challenge 2014

DESCRIPTIONS:

Sets: the number of times you repeat all of the reps of the exercises, with rest in between

Reps: the number of times you repeat the exercise at once

Rest: just what it sounds like!  Let that body recover, it’s just as important as exercise!

Extra Run or Walk: add some running to your usual walk, or add an extra walk at a different time of day – up to you!  Try adding the time shown each week to whatever your usual walk with Fido is.  Bonus if you add in some hills or stairs!

Squats: lower your body down like you are sitting in a chair.  Keep the chest up high and shoulders back.  Here’s a link to make sure you have proper form (but do the number of reps/sets shown in the schedule).

Push-ups: use a bench or the ground to lower your chest towards your hands.  Have your pup do their push ups too!  See the blog post for specific instructions HERE!

Sprint Intervals: add a burst of high intensity cardio to your walk or run.  If you prefer to walk, just walk at a faster pace for the time shown; if you’re running, run at an all out sprint!  Doggies should stay in a heel.  Check out  the video here.

Bicycle Crunches: lay on the floor with your knees at 90 degrees (calves parallel to floor) and hands behind your head.  Alternate bringing your right elbow and left knee together while the right leg straightens, and then switch your elbow/knee to the opposite side.  See the post HERE for correct form.

Triceps Dips: stand with your back to a surface like a bench or low wall and place your hands down on it, fingers facing you.  Lower yourself down, using the muscles in the back of your upper arm to push yourself back up to level with the bench.  Here’s a link for more details.

Have fun with this and know that you are BURNING calories, increasing your muscle mass which increases your metabolism so that you can eat more AND you are having fun with your pup!
