Are you one of those people that don’t celebrate their birthday? Do you hide how old
you are? I have noticed one thing. Women do NOT like to tell people how old they are until AFTER they are 80 and then they are PROUD of how old they are. It is kind of funny. The older they get, the more they flaunt their age ESPECIALLY if they are active. But before 80, they say “its none of your business”. I often wonder why that is? I personally forget how old I am. I sometimes have to do the math and figure it out because it really doesn’t matter to me. Age is what you are doing with your life and how you are feeling.
I see people in their 20’s spending their life watching “The Kardashian’s” while people in their 60’s are out riding horses, paddle boarding and having a great time! What you do WITH your life should matter more than how old you are.
Each year should be a time to reflect back on what you have accomplished in the past year and a time to set goals for the upcoming year. What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? Who do you want to spend it with? If you died tomorrow form a car crash or cancer, what would you regret that you didn’t do? What can you take care of or change? People of all ages die so don’t feel like getting older means your demise–it just means more experience and more life that you have to live and have fun!
In our Leash Your Fitness classes, we celebrate birthday’s with exercise!! If you are 52 then we will do either 52 seconds or 52 reps of an exercise. We mix up the exercises and make it fun! Staying fit is the BEST way to stay young. What is your exercise on your birthday? Is it picking up your fork to eat cake, walking to your car to drive to a restaurant or are you celebrating with a 5k or marathon or maybe a hike with your dog? What is your goal for next year? How can you improve your fitness level? Movement is crucial in your quest for a youthful existence.
I just turned 46! I started my day with a 4.6 mile trail run that included 4 hill repeats (one for each decade), along the route I stopped and did 46 pullups on 4 different sets of pullup bars, and I did 46 crunches at the end. Of course I did it with my best workout partner, my dog Jack!
What a great way to start the day and get energized! You don’t have to do something this extreme but try focusing on fitness and doing something that entails movement on your next birthday! Start with something easy and keep making your adventures larger! You may be surprised at how YOUNG it makes you feel!
Let us know what you have planned!! And…….
Happy Birthday!!
