Camping with your dog

Camping with your dog can be so much fun.  The Leash Your Fitness 5th annual camping trip proved that!  We had 25 people and 24 dogs in Idyllwild, CA for a weekend full of hiking, playing, eating and even some shopping!

The weekend began on Friday, slowly everyone arrived at camp. Mommy had a little hike planned for anyone that arrived early and was ready to go!! The Hillside hike above our campground was perfect!  We got to burn some calories and check out the trails.  When we returned to camp, everyone had arrived and dinner was almost ready!  Dave spoiled everyone with a weekend full of gourmet meals.  Mommy doesn’t want the camp site  to turn into a “food fest” so we supply all of the meals for everyone and Dave does an amazing  job of mixing up the menu each year. Dinner was a Chinese theme complete with chopsticks & fortune cookies!!  He had 4 different types of meat cooked in a variety of Chinese dishes and everyone was very happy!!  After dinner we played the “name game” so everyone could meet each other.  Between the dogs and the people, there were a lot of names to learn!

Saturday morning came after a starry night that was very pleasant, I didn’t even have to sleep in the sleeping bag with mommy because it wasn’t even cold!! Dave made his gourmet scrambled eggs with cheese, blueberry pancakes and bacon breakfast and all us dogs got was our boring old food! But we got to run around and play before breakfast so that was fun! We loaded up the cars and everyone went to Humber Park to start our hike.  The Ernie Maxwell trail was PERFECT for everyone to do together. It was a 5 mile round trip trail on the easy but very scenic side.  Everyone went at their own pace and it worked out great! Those of us who wanted a little more headed up the Devils Slide trail and only 4 of the 25 that started completed the entire 10 miles.  I have to mention that out of 24 dogs, the four that did over 10 miles were us little guys and gals!   After the hike everyone did whatever they wanted! Some went into town to shop and have lunch, others went back to camp to chill out.  It was a BEAUTIFUL day!  Of course Dave had another gourmet meal planned for dinner.  Grilled vegetables, chicken and orzo salad was delicious!! (at least that is what I heard everyone saying, I had to eat my boring dog food again but Cathy made homemade dog treats that were very yummy!)  Everyone was so tired that we didn’t even want to get up for the tricks game!  Momo demonstrated her hug so she won the prize!  The weather was so nice that most of the dogs didn’t even wear their fashionable coats this year so only a few entered the doggy fashion show.  Of course Lucy had her fashion jean skirt and ski jacket on and Dhani & Tink had their fashionable sweaters on. they all won cool prizes for their fashion attire!  I am so happy that mommy doesn’t make me wear clothes!

Sunday already!! I don’t want to go home! Dave cooked his signature breakfast again while some of the people packed up. I am lucky to have a mommy that likes to get in as much as she can everywhere we go so we led another hike up to the Summit and over to the Nature Center.  It was so sad to pack up and leave after such a fun weekend. Everyone got along really well and we didn’t have any injuries so we declare it a SUCCESSFUL weekend!!

A special thanks to Dave Campbell for shopping for, preparing and cooking all of his amazing meals! And thanks to Murphy The Great Dane’s mom, Debbie for sharing her beautiful photos with us to show to you!  We hope that you come and join us on some of our Leash Your Fitness activities this year so you will be invited to next years “invite only” camping trip because they sure are a lot of fun but we only want to camp with people that we know!

PS>  The nice lady at Happy Trails Cabin  loved our group so they are going to offer anyone in our group a 15% discount for next time!! And they are very close to the camp ground!! Yeaaa!!

Enjoy the photos!
