Gig Harbor, Washington

We had adventures in Sequim, Washington until the very last minute.   It was very beautiful there but it was time to move on. We stopped in Port Townsend on our way to Gig Harbor.  It was a fishing town with a lot of deer.  We even had to make a few stops as they crossed the road!  

The drive to Gig Harbor was an adventure in itself.  We hit a road block, went over a draw bridge and hit some construction but we made it and it was worth the wait.  Our friend, Patty, lives right on the water!   She has a beautiful view!

It didn’t take me long to go SWIMMING with my friend, Max.  

Max has been battling a bad heart and me being here did two things.  It got him out having fun and wagging his little nubby tail AND it made him eat cause he didn’t want me to get his food!  I was glad to be a help to him.  

Mommy was in his hammock and he was not too happy about that.  He crawled up on the table until she got out and then he immediately found his favorite spot.  

Patty’s place is so cool.  You have to walk through a forest to get to the beach.  There are lots of stairs…

….and a really pretty trail.  

She also has a yummy garden and mommy picked some snap peas, zucchini and a new vegetable called a lemon cucumber.  

We also got to pick more blackberries.  Mommy is loading up!  This place is really cool.  The beach is full of live sea animals.  There were clams, oysters and tons of sand dollars.  I have never seen anything like it.  

After the beach adventure,  Miss Patty took us for a tour.    We went over a big bridge called the Narrows Bridge. 

The interesting thing about this bridge is that the original one collapsed and it is under this one.  Amazingly no people were harmed but unfortunately one dog was killed in the collapse.  

…then went for a little hike is a big city park, Point Defiance Park.  It was a really cool park complete with a zoo! 

There were lots of trails and we met a few friends along the way….

and big trees! 

We even got to see the sunset over Pugent Sound! 

Miss Patty thought mommy needed some culture so she took us into Tacoma to see this amazing blown glass display by a famous artist, Chihuly.  It was totally free outside of the art museum on the water.  This display was over our heads and all lit up.  

There were a bunch of beautiful blown glass pieces of art along the walkway.  

We had another full day!  We got to park outside of Patty’s house with a view of the water.  

The next day, the water was calm and even though it was a bit chilly, we took off for a much needed paddle.  Miss Patty was in her kayak and we were on our SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard).  

The bay is HUGE here.  We paddled along the water in Henderson Bay  looking at the beautiful houses.  All I wanted to do was SWIM!  So I swam a bit while mommy paddled.  

We paddled into some coves…. 

and then we paddled to an island!  It is called Cutts Island, aka Deadman’s Island.  

It was so cool.  There were baby harbor seals on the shore waiting for their mommy to come back.  

And there was a trail so we got a little hike in!  

The water was so calm that you could see the clouds reflection in it! 

It was a really cool find and Miss Patty had never been there so that made it all the better.  

It was a long paddle back but we saw a ton of sand dollars.  The black ones are alive and the white ones are dead.  Pretty cool, huh?  

When we got back to Miss Patty’s house it was already 4 o’clock and the tide had gone out.  I got a little muddy getting off of the SUP.  

What a fun day!  Mommy and Miss Patty picked some more vegetables and blackberries for dinner and they had a really healthy dinner on the deck while they watched another beautiful sunset.  

The next day, Max was not feeling real well so mommy and I went for a walk on the beach so that she could get some pretty shells and sand dollars for her friends.  Then she made this cool video of the walkway going to Patty’s house.  It was like being in the jungle of Costa Rica.  

Then we went to the town of Gig Harbor and saw a beautiful view of Mt Rainier.  

It was a beautiful day to take a walk through town and get some fish tacos.  

We had a great time in Gig Harbor but it is time to move on to Issaquah. We are teaching a dog fitness class there with Riverdog Canine Coaching.
