Thanks for following our 10 1/2 week journey through the U.S. to promote doing fun and active things with your dog. Feel free to browse back through all of the amazing places that we have been! We are in Colorado now, our favorite state! Have you purchased our book yet from Amazon? It is full of super fun stories and tips on how YOU and your dog can do fun things! Plus, when you buy it, mommy buys me treats!
We stopped a few times after leaving Boulder. We usually do not like highways but the 70 through Colorado is beautiful!
Once again since I am such a good travel partner, mommy stopped so I could swim in Georgetown Lake. It was cold but I didn’t care.

Mommy covered me up to keep me warm while she drove.

Then we headed down the 91 to Boulder. We stopped at a lake there too but I didn’t swim. Mommy enjoyed the scenery while I chased varmints!

We didn’t really know where we were going so we stopped in Leadville. It is really high there! Cool little town.

We were going to stay there because we needed water and to dump our tanks but the nice lady in the Ranger station told us about the dump station for only $5.! We met a really cool couple there that live in their RV. You will meet them later!
We headed to Twin Lakes because we like to go where there is water. The first 3 campgrounds were not good enough for mommy so we settled on Lakeview Campground. The park host, Bill was super nice. There were no hookups or a dumpstation but it was only $19. A night and Bill let us use his hose to fill up the tank again so mommy could take a shower.
Mommy still wasn’t sold that there would be enough for us to do for 4 days. We usually only stay 2 nights at each site but because of the holiday weekend we decided to stay 4. Our nice neighbors told us about the Colorado Trail, Mt Elbert and the lake so we were sold!
We woke up the next morning and took off on the Colorado Trail. Wow!! What a great trail right from our camp! The Colorado trail runs from Denver to Durango so obviously we didn’t do the entire thing but we hiked 5 miles and then turned around and came back on the 4 wheel drive road.

The section of the trail that we did had beautiful Aspen trees.

Some fallen timber.

And a few beaver ponds. (my favorite!)

We were glad that we didn’t turn around when it started to thunder because the trail was so beautiful!
We came back on the 125B road because we wanted to check it out for the day that we hike Mt Elbert. There was no way that mommy could drive the RV up this road and it is going to be all up hill to the trail head so we decided that we are going to hitch a ride to cut off that 2 miles.

After our hike our nice neighbors had us over for dinner. They were from a church near Liberty, MO where our friend Mendy lives and where we just were a few weeks ago! Small world!
Woke up on Friday to RAIN! We were bummed. But it stopped around 9 a.m. so we packed up and took the RV to the Twin Lakes at the bottom of the hill to Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP). Mommy decided to give my legs a break before we do our BIG hike tomorrow.

There were actually 2 lakes, that is why it is called Twin Lakes. And we SUP’d both of them! 9 miles total!

We met a super nice family that were in inflatable kayaks!

We also met a couple that lived in Antarctica!! Can you imagine? They said it would get 103 below zero! I think I would NOT be going in the water there! Brrrr!!
We came home and mommy rolled and stretched on the table with a view!

Got to bed early for our big hike tomorrow. Mommy had everything ready to go so we could wake up at 4:45 a.m. and be at the road early to hitch a ride the 2 miles to the trailhead. Thank you to the nice family that gave us a ride.
We knew it was going to be a good day when it started like this!

The hike up was not as hard as the time we hiked to 12,000′ in Idaho. Not sure why, maybe because it was a shorter hike. It was 5 miles up from the trail head. All up! We were up in the clouds!

When we got above tree line it got windy. If you go, remember to take ear warmers or you can use your shirt like mommy did!

It wasn’t windy for long. It was a really beautiful day! We lucked out! We stayed at the top for 2 hours talking to people and enjoying the view!

We got to the top of the highest peak in Colorado and the 2nd highest in the country in 3 hours! Mommy stopped a lot to take photos.

It was 4th of July so it was very festive at the top!

Lots of people were there and even little kids. One boy was only 7!
There were lots of dogs too!

One guy was there on his mountain bike! I bet the ride down was better than the push up!

Mommy let me play in the snow on the way down!

We could see where we SUPed yesterday!

And it got really hot so I got to go swimming too!

What a 4th of July to remember! Mommy was so proud of me, she kept giving me big hugs! (how embarrassing!)

As you can imagine, mommy took a lot of photos so go check them out HERE!
After 13 miles of hiking, playing in the snow, chasing squirrels and swimming, I was ready for a nap!

This has been a really fun stop! Sometimes the best things in life are totally unplanned! Next stop is with our new friends from the dump station and it is a beautiful stop so stay tuned!

As you can imagine, Colorado just keeps getting better so…
Keep on following our journey here!
