Camden, Maine

Welcome to Jacks Journey USA!!  Mommy and I are on a mission to inspire as many people and their dogs as we can to do fun activities together.  You can see how this all came about HERE or you can just join in on our 10 week journey around the country….

After our nights stay in Walmart in Ellsworth and our super fun visit to Acadia National Park, we loaded up with supplies and we were on our way to Camden, Maine for our hike there with the Loyal Biscuit.

The drive down Rt 1 was so beautiful. We got to go through little towns, cross a really cool bridge, see tons of Fishing boats and see views of the Atlantic Ocean. It was really amazing and we highly recommend it!

We got to the Bald Rock Mountain Trailhead and pre-hiked our hike so we knew what to expect. It was areally cool hike. A mile of wide trail through beautiful Aspen and then the trail turned up a rooty and rocky side trail for about a ½ a mile.

The view from the top was AMAZING!! This view reminded mommy why we started this journey in the first place. It was a view like this on the Pacific Ocean a year ago that inspired us to hike around the country to see the beautiful views. From this view, we could see Eagles flying over the trees near the coast. Simply spectacular! We feel so blessed and took a few moments to be grateful for all that we get to see and do!

After the hike we headed into the city of Camden. We passed a lake that was screaming for me to swim in it and it just so happened to have a dock so since it was a nice day, I got to SWIM!

Camden was a super cute town on the water. We walked all over the town and mommy got some ice cream with the word “lobster” in it. The boats on the harbor were really big and beautiful and we saw lots of lobster traps.

Time to head to Camden Hills State Park which was very close to town. The park rangers were super nice. It took us 3 times to find a site that we could get level on but we finally decided on site 100 which was in the grass and close to the entrance and trails. The campground was large and wooded.

Since we were across the street from the ocean, we took a walk down to the “beach” which turned out to be a rock cliff. It was beautiful and we decided to come down at sunrise since this may be our last chance at seeing it over the Atlantic Ocean. We are sad that our journey is going to be taking us back west tomorrow. Our journey has been so much fun and we don’t want it to end!

The sunrise was hard to see because of the fog bank that rolled in but we got a little glimpse of it. We have not had the best weather since being in Maine so we have missed all of the sunrises on the east coast.  It was cold so we went back to the RV and went back to bed!

Where is the sun that we thought was going to be out today? Since it is cool, we hiked up to Mt Megunticook from camp. There were a lot of little turnoffs to see the ocean view but it was really foggy. You really can’t go wrong with any hike in Maine. They have all been rather amazing and marked very well. The cool weather has been perfect hiking weather. No bugs and no humidity.

Mommy and I decided to get all prettied up and go on a “date night”. We had to go get propane and mommy wanted to buy some real blueberry jam from Maine so we were on a mission plus she thought she better get some chowder before we departed Maine. Some things you just have to do when you are a tourist! She got to eat at a deli that was sitting on top of a waterfall that was flowing into the harbor.

We took a drive down the coast and saw some beautiful houses and some funny looking cows that were grazing near the coast. They had some pretty expensive pasture!

Four boys were filming a video in Camden and thought our journey was really cool so they took a photo by Spirit so I will be in their school video! We thought that Camden would be crowded since it was Friday night but it was pretty quiet. We walked down to the “beach” and we had to put our toes in the Atlantic Ocean to signify it was time to move west. Our mission was complete!

The next day we woke to rain. Bummer! Its National Trail Day and our hike with the Loyal Biscuit is this morning and our friends from San Diego just happen to be in Maine and they are going to join us! I am so excited to see my Aunt Cathy and Uncle Frank! She always has yummy treats for me!

It turned out to be a beautiful morning and the hike was super fun. I met some new dog friends. The view from the top was just as amazing as the first time that we saw it. It is always fun to share it with friends and see how excited they are! Loyal Biscuit and Kurgo had goodie bags for everyone on the hike and we got some great photos. It was pretty cool that Leash Your Fitness celebrated National Trail Day on both coasts! Check out the photos HERE!

After the hike, we went to lunch at the Lobster Shack with our friends and mommy had one last lobster roll. The restaurant was right on the water so we got to see the ferry take off to go to the islands where people actually live! John Travolta and Kristi Ali have houses on the islands there. Pretty crazy! We dipped our feet in the Ocean one last time, said our goodbyes to our friends and headed west. Mommy was very sad but excited about our next stop. We have no idea where that is going to be so stay tuned…..

We are loving Maine and we are not done yet…
