5th Annual Doggy Camp Trip

Wow!! What a weekend full of adventure! Can you believe we had 35 dogs and 35 people on our 5th annual Leash Your Fitness Camping Trip in Idyllwild, CA!?  Our campers consisted of 11 tents, 5 RV’s, 3 people sleeping in their cars, and 3 cabins.  As always our chef, Dave,  created AWESOME meals for us to consume! After all, calories don’t count when you are camping, right?  After everyone arrived and got set up, we went on our first hike to get the calorie counters burning and the dogs tired out! The hillside trail above our camp was a perfect start to the weekend! After our hike  we devoured shrimp, pork, carne asada, chicken and vegetable taco’s  complete with a full-on taco bar! Of course dessert was s’mores by the fire.  YUMMY!

Saturday morning was an early start so that we could beat the heat on the hike.  It is ALL ABOUT THE DOGS, and we don’t want them to get overheated!  Dave had the coffee brewing at 6 a.m. and breakfast ready to consume at 7 a.m. We started our day with eggs, bacon, sausage and blueberry pancakes.  Everyone loaded up on trail mix, energy bars and fruit to get them through until lunch time.  We had some major hiking to do! The group broke up into two groups on two different hikes.  The 8 mile group left first and headed up to South Ridge Trail.  It was a beautiful trail with spectacular views. The lookout tower at the top was really cool and we could see for miles in the distance.  The 5 mile group (although they said it was more than 5 miles!) did the Ernie Maxwell Trail and had a wonderful time capturing tons of photos of the dogs.  We sure do like to take photos or our dogs! Everyone went back to camp at their own pace for lunch on their own that consisted of deli meats, cheese, snacks, vegetables, hummus and yummy cookies.  The afternoon was a free for all, some went into town to shop, others took naps, others chatted it up and a few even took a shower! The dogs had to rest up as they had important business to attend to at the camp fire!  Our annual doggy tricks contest and costume contest was preceded by our first annual “tent decorating” contest and boy were the girls bribing the judges! It was a lot of fun and all of the tents looked FABULOUS so everyone who participated got a poster board of their dog from Clairemont Signs for a remembrance of the fun weekend!

Sunday was a sleep in kind of day but most were still up by 7 a.m. It is  hard to sleep in with a bunch of dogs running around and a bunch of people chatting it up.  A few people left early after another delicious breakfast and everyone else went on the last hike of the weekend. The Summit Trail was a really cool hike that afforded some great photo moments and a visit to the Idyllwild Nature Center.

The weekend was by far a PERFECT weekend. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to join us and more perfect weather!  These outings are by invite only  to all of the people that have joined us in our classes and events during the year.  The camping trip sells out very fast because it is ALWAYS a great time.  A nice combination of relaxing, mingling, exercising and eating was had by all!  A BIG THANK YOU to Dave our chef, I honestly believe that some people  come for the food because he does such an amazing job and everything is DELICIOUS!  A BIG THANK YOU to Cathy for making her homemade healthy dog treats for all of our pups. Another BIG THANK YOU to Holly, Denise, Deb and Lisa for the BEAUTIFUL rocks that they made for everyone on the trip.  It was a wonderful surprise!
