We left Lake Shasta for our last leg of our journey. We were happy to get the RV cleaned and fresh oil in it. Those are two less things mommy will have to do when we go home.
We were driving down the 5 south and there was an accident so Siri (the Iphone lady) told mommy to go on all of these country roads to bypass the traffic. We were so happy that we did because we went past a goat farm and mommy stopped and petted the goats. There were lots of cute babies too!
We headed to a new lake that we have never been to before. Our friend Shelley is the camp host there and it was kind of on our way home so we thought we would break our drive up and spend the day with her and her pups. So we got off the I5 and headed down the 99 and then East on the 26 until we found it!
New Hogan Lake was much bigger than we thought it was going to be! The Acorn campground was big too and had sites right on the lake. I was so happy to get to swim again and the water was warm!
We took a walk around which is always an adventure with Shelley’s 3 dogs…
The deer were out all over the place and there were lots of babies too…
It was cloudy and we thought it was going to rain but it just sprinkled a little. The next day was beautiful. Mommy showed Shelley some stretches and rolling to do for her back and us dogs kind of took over the yoga mat!
Then I got to go dock diving!
I swam and swam and swam. Shelley’s dogs played and looked for fish and we had a great time. I swam so much that I needed to take a nap!
Shelley cooked mommy a yummy dinner and we hung out at camp. We met Shelley and her pups 2 years ago in Arkansas on Jack’s Journey USA. The gals stayed in touch on Facebook and then we went to see her in April in Arizona where she was living. Now we are seeing her in California! It is so cool all of the people that we meet on our travels!

We ended our last day with a nice walk to watch the sunset. I was walking with the big dogs!

The pups were sad to see us leave but we know that we will see them again!
We got up super duper early and headed toward home. Mommy wanted to get through LA around 11 a.m., that seemed like it may be a safe time. It was a really easy drive. Well, I wouldn’t know cause I slept most of the way except for my potty breaks. Mommy hit a little traffic going through LA and almost turned around and headed back to fresh water lakes and trees!
We got home around 2 p.m. and we were so grateful for:
- a safe journey!
- no injuries
- our health
- that we are able to do so many active and fun things
- all of the people that we saw on our trip
- that Spirit was healthy with just some minor repairs
- all of the beautiful places that we went
- the ability to go away for 6 weeks!
We don’t take anything for granted. Eleven months ago, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We try to live life to the fullest and enjoy every day.
Even when we got home, we went paddling and I was trying to meet some new friends….
That is what life is all about, RIGHT?

PS. In case you are wanting to travel and were wondering about the costs, here is a rough breakdown and remember, gas in Canada was expensive. The cheapest was $4.10 / gallon so in 9 days/ 1600 miles, we spent $500. just on gas!
5290 miles in 39 days!
Gas: $1660. (we find the cheapest gas at Gasbuddy)
Camping: $149. ( we only paid for camping 7 times in 39 days. We stayed with friends and we find free camping at Freecampsites.net or Campendium)
Food: $345. (we make food in the RV & only eat out when we are with friends, probably spent more but this is an estimate)
RV repairs: $353.
With EVERYTHING including fun shopping which we don’t do much of, our average daily expense was $81. and THAT is how we can afford to go away for so long! It doesn’t take a ton of money to have fun!
