Motivation Monday: Gratitude

Do you ever think about the wonderful things that happen to you EVERY DAY?  Or…. do you focus on all of the CRAP that happens to you and say “Why me?”   Be honest, we all do it.

  • Do you look at yourself in the mirror and wish your hair was straighter? curlier? longer?  darker? or whatever it isn’t?
  • Do you compare yourself to  others at work? in your neighborhood?  on social media?
  • Do you get depressed and you aren’t exactly sure why?

Maybe you need to focus on more GRATITUDE!

Think about all of the WONDERFUL things that you have going for you:

  • Can you see?
  • Can you hear?
  • Do you have a job?
  • Are you able to learn?
  • Do you have all 4 limbs?
  • Do you have your health?
  • Did you drive to work safely?
  • Do you have food? clean water?
  • Do you have a cell phone?  computer?
  • Do you have people in your life that love you?

There are so many things that we take for granted.  It is very important to think about them and be GRATEFUL for them.  When you work in a hospital and see every day how your life can change in a second, you look at things a little differently.

A favorite thing that I do at least once a week is take a GRATITUDE walk to a nearby pond.  Just Jack and I on a quiet trail. I like to think to myself all of the wonderful things in my life.  Just the fact that I can walk on a trail is something to be GRATEFUL for!  How many people would love to do that and can’t!?

Another great idea that will help is to keep a GRATITUDE journal.  Every night before you go to bed or every morning before you leave, write down ONE THING that you are grateful for.  They add up!

These practices will give you a new way of thinking about your day and maybe just maybe, it will make you SMILE and think about things a little differently.

Try it and let me know if it helps!
