MIM: Side Planks

A few months ago we challenged you to add planks to your workout – now it’s time to add in some side planks!  These isometric holds are great to work on your core stability, arm strength, and balance.  We do these all the time in our Leash Your Fitness classes!

  • These can be done from your forearm or hand, just make sure that the part touching the ground is directly under your shoulder (see photo)
  • Try holding for 15-30 seconds on each side to start out, and progress from there
  • You can even add a weighted ball or water bottle to make it more challenging!
  • If stacking your feet is difficult, try putting them in tandem (heel to toe) to give yourself a wider base of support
  • To challenge yourself even more try “threading” your top arm under your torso to get a twist, or lifting the top leg.

How long can you hold your side plank?  Is one side harder than the other?  We want to hear from YOU!  Happy Move It Monday!
