Book Review: Merle’s Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog

Mommy couldn’t put this book down.  She said that it was not only a wonderful story but very educational.

Merle’s Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog  is a story about a 10 month old puppy that finds his new owner in the middle of the Utah wilderness.  The two bond and enjoy a 13 year life of freedom, adventure,  fun and lessons learned.   They go hunting, skiing and on other adventures together but Merle also has many adventures on his own. The setting is in the beautiful Teton mountains of Wyoming and Merle leads a life free to make his own decisions.  Ted Kerasote does an amazing job of translating for Merle.  The book makes you laugh, cry, wonder and through Mr. Kerasote’s research, learn little things about dogs that help you to understand why they do the things that they do.

Mommy and I stopped by to visit Mr. Kerasote on our road trip to Idaho and Wyoming  last summer and we met his new dog, Pukka.  Much different from Merle but loved just the same.  It was fun meeting Ted and seeing the little town that the story took place in.  Once you read it, you will see what we mean!
