We left by 6 a.m. from our forest road camp spot and our Sedona adventure. It wasn’t long and we were on the 40 headed to Lake Havasu. Mommy stopped at another coffee shop in Williams to get some work done while I napped in the RV.
We got to Lake Havasu at 11 a.m. and splurged at the Havasu State Park. We have been camping for 2 weeks and mommy has spent a total of $60. on campsites. For 2 days at this campground, it is $80. BUT we found a spot right on the lake with our own private beach that was dog friendly AND we have electric and water. It is our Grand Finale spot!
The people were not gone yet so we swam while they packed up. We told them not to rush as I love to swim so I didn’t mind!
As soon as they were gone, we were parked, leveled and the SUP was inflated in no time flat! We were out on the water and even though we started late, there was no wind! Hallelujah!
We paddled north on the lake. It was so clear and the water was so warm! This time we had white sand dunes to look at.
And White sand beaches and palm trees!
Our scenery keeps changing which is so cool! We have seen lots of Cactus, Pine Trees and now Palm Trees!
We got back to camp and there were people at our private beach! What the heck? We didn’t mind. We shared. I swam and mommy talked to our neighbors. One of the guys had 2 Labrador Retrievers so we especially liked him. He was telling us stories about his 13-year-old dog that used to retrieve ducks in North Dakota. He said he would even dive down in the water for them. Now THAT is a Retriever!
Since we now had hook ups, mommy took a long shower and turned the AC on since it was 99 degrees in the RV!
The next day, mommy got to do her stretches and foam rolling on pavement. No dirt! We are really living it up in this campsite!
Then we were off on the SUP. We headed south this time and got to see a bunch of lighthouses and mountains.
And really BiG and LOUD boats!
We paddled for 4.5 miles looking for the London Bridge. We met a nice man in a kayak that told us that we were almost there and that we paddled around an island! We didn’t even know that!
We stopped at a super nice beach called Rotary Park and had snacks and a swim!
And I rolled around in the sand a little bit too and it felt so GOOD!
The London Bridge was cool. It was originally built in London in 1830 and went across the Thames River. One hundred years later, it was deconstructed and brought here. Pretty cool, huh?
We paddled under it and then stopped for some SUP diving action. You can watch the video HERE. It was a lot of fun!
Mommy was laughing because the channel after the bridge came out at the end of our campground! We could have walked there! We did go the long way around! We didn’t care. We wanted to spend the day on the SUP anyhow and the paddle down the lake was beautiful.
It was REALLY hot so we headed back to camp to escape the sun for a bit under the RV awning. Although, I kept laying in the sun which was crazy to mommy cause the pavement was HOT!
I got my last bone to enjoy on the trip and mommy read her funny book. It is about people that are obsessed with things. The first chapter was all about people that are obsessed with Barbie dolls. Mommy was laughing out loud reading it! She also used the hose to clean off Spirit a little, especially all of the dead bugs off of the front. Man! She was DIRTY from all of the dirt roads we have been on this trip!
We got some new neighbors to chat with. Sad story of a family who lost their 4th child to cancer at the age of 3. They are taking a 5-month RV trip to heal from the pain. When you think you have problems, there is always someone worse off. I felt so bad for them, that I let the kids play with me in the water.
We got to watch our last Arizona Lake sunset as we walked the lake front for our evening walk. It finally cooled down a bit.
Man! I was tired after all of that activity today!
The next day we had to be out of camp by noon but mommy was determined to SUP to the other side of the lake so off we went. She thought it was about a mile, it ended up being 3 miles! It was already hot so we stopped to swim a few times on the way across the lake.
We got about 20′ from shore and the wind picked up like a tornado! What the heck?! It is too early for this! We knew we were going to be in BIG trouble! We had to paddle the entire way back against the wind and the waves in the lake looked like ocean waves! It was CRAZY!!
It was the first time ever that mommy had to sit on the SUP almost the entire paddle back! It was one heck of a Grand Finale Paddle! It ended up being 7 miles AND we crossed the state line so we paddled in 2 states! We stopped once to take a little break and enjoy the sandy beach!
We got back at 11:15 a.m. and took a swim cause we were HOT and then packed up and said good-bye to our new friends and headed out! We were ready to relax after that tough paddle!
We headed to Rotary Park in Lake Havasu. We just wanted to hang out there for a few hours to end our amazing trip. We were bummed when there was a “NO Pets” sign at the entrance. Mommy had such a crazy morning that she said too bad and we chanced it. After all, I am not “really” a dog! I am mommy’s son! haha We were surprised when we got there and a friend that we had met in Cottonwood was there waiting for us. We hung out with him on the beach all day. We swam and I dug in the sand while mommy chatted with Terry. There were not very many people at the beach and the little kids liked playing with me so nobody seemed to mind that I was there.
We saw a guy in a boat with a sale and thought maybe we should get one of those for these crazy windy days!
Man! It was so hot in Havasu. Mommy was so over the heat so we took off on our way home around 4 p.m.
We drove past Parker Dam.
It was a really pretty drive on the 95 South out of Havasu. There were lots of cool rock formations.
We drove and drove and drove trying to find a cool place to spend the night. Yuma and El Centro were still in the 90’s after dark! We ended up driving to Jacumba, an hour away from home and spent the night at a truck stop.
When a trip ends like that, you know it is time to go home. We had an amazing time. We put over 1600 miles on Spirit, paddled over 60 miles, hiked over 20 and I swam in 8 different bodies of water. We never know what is in store for us when we leave San Diego but we have some amazing travel angels that travel with us. They keep us safe and on the right trail the entire time. Mommy just turns the adventure over to them!
This trip meant a lot to us because I am going to be having my follow up MRI on Wednesday after my brain tumor diagnosis in October. Mommy wants to enjoy every minute with me no matter what the outcome. I may not be hiking to the tallest peaks in the country anymore but I still like to have fun, especially in the water!
Mommy is trying everything to keep me healthy and active because she loves me a lot and we have a lot of fun together!
Thanks so much for following our adventure. If you don’t mind, would you say a little prayer for me that my tumor is shrinking and that I will continue to feel good. We have BIG plans for our next adventure in the fall and I want to feel GREAT for it! Plus, we like sharing our adventures with all of you!
