I know that if you don’t live in San Diego that it is hard to believe that dogs surf but guess what? THEY DO!!! And they were out in FULL FORCE on Sunday, September 9th at Del Mar Dog Beach for the Helen Woodward Surf Event.
It was a fundraiser for the animals and our So Cal Surf Dog group alone raised over $11,000.00, thanks in part to Surf Dog Richochet the fundraising dog!
I was in the small dog heat but they had BIG dogs, including my friend Nani, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and everything else in between riding the waves. There was even a costume ride called the Doo the Dah where you could dress up with your dog & surf.
The highlight of the day was the World Record Attempt with 35 dogs on ONE WAVE! I got to ride with my girlfriend, Cleo. We both came in 3rd in our heat but we didn’t care, we had so much fun! I can’t decide what I like the most, riding the wave or jumping off of the surf board! I call it Surf Diving!

There were over 5,000 spectators, media from all over, judges & lots of vendors selling cool dog stuff. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to enjoy the beach.
Have fun checking out the pictures, and as always, thanks to Dale Porter for being the photographer extraordinaire and capturing some cool shots!
