Not sure why we had the most frustrating travel day yet. Nothing seemed to work out. The GPS kept taking us the wrong way even though mommy set it for a different route, that thing is stubborn! We don’t really enjoy traveling on freeways, they are boring. We like to see things, even though it isn’t always the fastest route and Jessie, our GPS doesn’t like that! She kept routing us back to the freeway! Now that we are on the East Coast, it is confusing because the states are smaller so we kind of forgot about Vermont. No wonder Jessie didn’t recognize places when we were telling her they were in New Hampshire! Then we would stop for gas and because of the stringent restrictions on gas stations, the gas pump would turn off every few seconds. Well! Do you know how much gas Spirit takes? It was taking forever to get gas and if you know my mommy, she is not high in the patience department.
The one thing that we did notice, the road signs were a little different than in San Diego! We were so bummed that we didn’t see a Moose!
One of the problems today is that we didn’t even know where we were going. We had a few lakes in mind but was trying to figure out which one was on the way to where we were going. And since the GPS would not recognize the addresses, we had to just figure it out!
We stopped at a lake in Vermont and was just going to stay there but the campground wasn’t on the lake. I got to swim anyhow because the rule is, I get to swim in EVERY state that I pass through. Yayy for me! Plus we needed a break from the drive and the lake was pretty.
We finally decided on Greenfield Lake State Park, that was suggested by Josee, a friend of Kelli’s who likes to SUP with her dogs. We finally arrived after 6 hours of travel. We couldn’t wait to check out the lake!
We parked Spirit and walked through a trail to the “lake” but it was really only a gross duck pond. We decided to just drive down to the parking lot by the beach and check it out. Icing on the cake of today, the sign said “NO DOGS”! Can you even believe that? There was nobody at the entire campground so we went for it!
The lake is super pretty and calling our name so we inflated the SUP and was ready to go and it started thundering! By this time, mommy just started laughing. It was just a really frustrating day! We went in the water for a few minutes and then headed back to the parking lot just in time for the downpour!
Since it was pouring and there was nobody around the entire park, we decided to just camp out in the parking lot!
Our campsite worked out great! The next morning was BEAUTFUL! We started our day with an early morning SUP around the entire lake (2.3 miles), stopping to swim a few times. The water is really warm and so clear that you can see the bottom!
We did not see one person the entire morning! We got back and had the entire beach to ourselves! Mommy got to do her yoga stretches on her own private beach!
Today was a good beach day so we got the beach chair out, a few snacks and walked past the NO DOGS sign and spent the entire day on the beach. Mommy attempted to read her book “Travels with Charley” while I drove her crazy playing non-stop with my Wubba. Mommy thinks that they put doggy crack in it because I am relentless with it. She didn’t get much reading done because she was constantly throwing that for me in the water for hours! If you don’t believe me, check out the video HERE!
A few people walked by and they confirmed that is was ok for me to be on the beach, everything was basically closed for the season so nothing was being enforced. Mommy talked to a few guys for a bit that were there enjoying the park. They couldn’t believe how I was obsessed with my Wubba. Yes, I am 10 years young but I have a lot of energy when it comes to water!
Another short storm rolled through and then we took a run through the park to check it out. Greenfield Lake State Park is a really large park. The campsites are wooded and spaced out. There were actually 3 campers in the entire park and we never saw them at the beach so they must have just hung at their sites the entire time. The most exciting thing that happened is that we got chased by a wild turkey! You know we have seen bears, moose, coyotes, bob cats, mountain lions, deer and elk on hiking trails and have never had a problem and now we almost get attacked by a crazy TURKEY! It wasn’t leaving us alone!
We survived that and headed back to camp. Now mommy was all sweaty so we went back to the lake to go for a swim and mommy got a lake bath with her biodegradable soap! The ticks and bugs are really bad in the North East so we are constantly spraying on bug spray! It felt good to get it washed off!
We had our first visitor on our trip; Josee who told us about the camp came by to visit as she lives nearby. It was so fun to meet her. She is a remarkable lady that does a lot of dog rescue. It was super fun to have a visitor and to meet her. We love meeting new people!
What a great day! It was like we had our own private beach and camp! We ended up camping in the parking lot another night! Why not!?
The next morning, we decided to take off early. Mommy went to the beach to do her yoga stretches and then we took off. We noticed people walking from the showers as we left so mommy decided to take a HOT shower and she said it felt really good to wash her hair. She smelled better too!
Speaking of smelling better, We are off to our friend Lisa’s house! She just moved back to New Hampshire 5 weeks ago from San Diego! How perfect is that? The not so perfect part is she is a dog groomer and guess who has to get a bath and a hair cut! Stay tuned for my new look!
