Getting Stronger on her trail runs

One of our very favorite people, Ana C., is having so much success on her trail runs that we wanted to highlight her achievements!  See how an already strong athlete and Navy Reservist got even healthier through Leash Your Fitness with her dogs Carly, Chipper, and Hines!

anabeforeHow did you start with LYF, and how long have you been coming to classes and events?

I attended the National Dog Day party at Camp Run A Mutt about 2 years ago and won a raffle prize for a free month of classes. So its been about 2 years and a half since I’ve joined the LYF group.

You were a runner before coming to LYF.  How has the running class (Strut With Your Mutt) helped you in your running goals?

It has definitely given me some great challenges, I’ve developed a great amount of endurance by running trails and doing speed work. Hines (my dog) is now able to finish 5Ks and go on longer hikes. I never considered running trails with my dog and now we love it!

What are some of your running achievements that you are most proud of?
To be able to decrease my pace by a minute. I used to run half marathons in 10:30min/mile  now I am running 9:30min/mile and my goal is to get down to 9 min if possible.

What role has the Fitness Challenge online group played in helping you in your health and wellness goals?

Ianaaftert has opened my eyes into eating healthier than I used to. I am not a fan of sweets or snacks but I do tend to overeat during my meals and who does not love carbs! I love pasta, bread and anything with carbs. So I have learned to control my portions and have switched to a healthy alternative when it comes to having those carb cravings. For example nuts, and fruits.  I have also challenged myself to eat more vegetables it is still an obstacle but day by day I take it on.

What are some of your favorite LYF activities to bring your dogs to?
Kayaking was my favorite and of course the hikes.Any fitness goals you are working towards?I am currently working on losing 5 more lbs and working towards being a better trail runner since I signed up for the Ragnar Trail series in Zion with the LYF team.

We are so proud of Ana for her success!
Not to mention how amazing she looks!

and Congrats on her most recent accomplishment, conquering the Sycamore Canyon 100k relay race with the Leash Your Fitness Strut With Your Mutt run team!

Not even the massive hill and rocky trails scared her away!
She even beat her PR!  Way to go Ana!
