It has been 2 weeks since my last radiation treatment so mommy decided to take some time off of work and spend quality time with me and have some fun. We did a lot of different stuff and she noticed a few things about me that had changed. We are hoping and praying that the tumor in my head is shrinking and the changes are due to the prednisone and/or phenobarbital side effects. She is looking forward to the day that I don’t have to take them anymore!
We began our 5 days of adventure by taking a road trip to Corona Del Mar to visit our friend Lisa who just opened a Pilates studio called Studio 333. We stopped at Dana Point on the way to take a walk along the water. It was an extremely hot day so mommy had to carry me part of it because I was walking so slow in the heat. The first thing that mommy noticed is that I did not get excited like I usually do when I am anywhere near water, as a matter of fact, I could have cared less!

We arrived at Lisa’s and mommy was telling her about how tight her neck felt. Being the body healer that Lisa is, she offered to do some body work on mommy while I relaxed in the air conditioning! Man! Good thing that she did! Mommy did not realize how tight her entire upper body was. It had not felt like that in a long time! Lesson learned: Take care of YOURSELF when confronted by any stressful situation because you are no good to others if you are wound up tight!

After her massage, Lisa tried to teach me Pilates but I wasn’t interested. Dog Yoga is enough for me!

We took a beautiful walk and watched the sunset before the girls had dinner together and we headed home.

It was a great day for mommy and a much needed break from worrying about me!
The following day, since it was still VERY hot, we decided to get out the SUP and head to the water. Usually as soon as we get anywhere near Mission Bay, I am going crazy with excitement, but not today. The last time that I was here, swimming made me cough and I remembered that and didn’t want any parts of it!
We pulled into the spot where we launch the SUP and I was excited to be there but did not run down to the water like I usually do barking like a crazy dog. It was a good thing because the water was dirty and mommy would not have allowed me to swim, but that has never stopped me before! Prednisone lowers your immunity so she is not taking any chances with me getting sick!
We got out on the water on the SUP and I sat quietly and let mommy paddle, which was a first. Usually I am whining to swim.

Mommy wanted me to swim because it is good exercise for me but she did not want me to drink the water so she lowered me into the water with the handle on my life jacket and let me swim to shore. I was so happy that she did that! I had a great time once I was in the water!

Usually I only swim to fetch my toy so mommy and I played a game. While on shore, she would throw the toy into the water and then we would race to get it. She would swim faster and win and then throw it further so I would have to swim more. In the past, she would let me win and I would swim to shore with my toy, but not this time. Since I take in water when the toy is in my mouth, she won and threw it to shore where I swam to get it again without drinking any water.
It worked! I did not cough or drink any water and once on shore, I got to dig in the sand with my toy.

For more exercise, mommy threw my toy for me on the beach and I had so much fun running to get it.

We stopped at four different locations with clean water and repeated all of this. It was a lot of fun spending the day with mommy and I had so much fun swimming and running around! The last stop I had to poop and while mommy was picking up my poop, I took it upon myself to dig through mommy’s water bag and help myself to the bag of treats. I know that I was being a bad boy but these drugs make me so hungry that I can’t help myself! Mommy had to take the bag with her!

After all of that exercise, I was a tired boy.

The two biggest things that mommy noticed about me in these two days is that I seem to be a little more spacey with a loss of interest in doing what I love and an uncontrollable need to eat ANYTHING! Mommy gives me a lot of freedom which now she will have to watch me closer so I don’t eat anything that I am not supposed to and get a belly ache!
She keeps using all of these smelly oils on me and has them spraying out of a smoke machine in the house. She said that will help my liver and my auto immunity, whatever that means. She said this week I get to eat some magic mushrooms! Yum!! I will eat anything so I am excited!
Since it was supposed to be a hot weekend, daddy decided that I might feel better if I had a haircut. Mommy was freaking out but I didn’t care that he was chopping my hair off. She told him to stop and she would take me to get groomed tomorrow because we were going camping!
To escape the heat and just get away together, mommy decided to go get Spirit and take me camping in the mountains where it is cooler for some squirrel therapy! She wanted to see how I acted while camping since it is my second favorite thing to do after swimming! Stay tuned for our next blog when we tell you all about that adventure!
