Mommy, daddy and I started our road trip on a super fun hike in the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness. Mommy and I drove the RV to Clinton Keith Road and parked it there and daddy picked us up in his truck. It was a good thing because the road going to the trailhead would not have been very fun in the RV. It was very narrow and a little rutted.
We drove down Tenaja road and parked at the trailhead for Fisherman’s camp. ( you need an adventure pass or chance getting a ticket )
We headed down the trail to the bottom where there was a lot of water! It was so fun getting to play in the water. All of the rains that we have been having is making hiking all the more fun!
The trail was a great trail. I didn’t even have to wear my booties.
We had to cross the creek 4 times. It was great!
We turned right at the point where the sign said to go toward Fisherman’s camp and then we took the low trail because mommy and daddy know that I would want to play in the water every chance that I got.
We ended up on the trail that led to the waterfall. People parked at that trailhead so they only had to walk a ½ mile to the waterfall, we already walked 4 miles!
We couldn’t be this close and not go check out the waterfall so we hiked the extra ½ mile and checked it out. It was very high and not super powerful but we are in California after all! The locals said that it had been dried up for the last 2 years so everyone was happy to see it flowing.
We hung out at the top and had some treats. We then walked back down to the trailhead for the waterfall and since it was getting late, we took the road 2 miles back to the car. Daddy carried me a little bit when the rocks started hurting my feet.
It was a super fun 7 mile hike. I would highly recommend it if you don’t mind rock hopping over creeks! It probably gets really hot there in the summer so I would suggest that if you are taking your dog that you go in the fall, winter or spring before the water dries up and it is cooler.
