Best medicine: Camping!

We started last week on and in the water, if you missed the beginning of our adventure week, you can read about it HERE.

Mommy decided since it was so hot, that taking Spirit to the mountains sounded like a great idea!

Our first stop was to see our fried Luz at Keepet Groomed.   Daddy thought that I would feel better if I had a haircut so he started my cut but Luz finished it and made me look handsome.  She also used this machine on my nails that I did not like but she  made me look & feel so much better.

Then we were off to Idyllwild.  We arrived at the campground and scouted out the perfect site.  It was relatively flat with lots of room for me to explore.     We did not waste any time and we were off on the trails that were connected to our campsite.

We took our time on our 2.5 mile hike.  We tried some new trails that we had never been on before.  We found some cool stuff like my first ever shooting range!

It is kind of a joke that we find water everywhere and we did it again!  I wish I could have swam in the little pond that we found but mommy wouldn’t let me because the water was kind of gross.

It was fun exploring and we even found another camp that had kayaks and stuff so there must have been more water back here at one point!  Bummer that it is no longer here!

It felt good to get out and sniff some new scents and see some new sights.  I move slower  and sometimes I just stop and stare at mommy but I am going to keep on moving! I don’t have a choice with a mom like mine!  We even did a little bushwhacking on a new trail that was being built.

We slept great in the cool weather and the next day was beautiful.  The weather was perfect hiking weather.  I think these drugs that I am on make me feel lazy because I didn’t want to leave camp.  Mommy encouraged me to come with her on another hike and I felt better once I got back on the trail.

We took our time and mommy let me smell all of the yummy smells.  I noticed that mommy is developing a word that daddy always tells her to do:  Patience.   She is trying to live in the moment and enjoy every minute.

We had a great day and although it took us many hours to hike only a few miles, we had a fun day of meeting new friends….

I got comments all day on my booties.  I have arthritis in my front paws and they make hiking on the trails so much better.  If you did not see our bootie review, you can read it HERE.

We went back to camp for lunch and so mommy could read her book, Pukka’s Promise,  about why so many dogs are getting cancer.  Mommy has been studying everything cancer related and how she can help me get better and give our friends & followers information for the last 4 weeks!

I took a little nap  but all I wanted to do was eat so I could not relax for long.  These darn drugs make me so hungry all of the time.

Mommy got her chair and sat outside and read and enjoyed listening to our camping neighbors dad play with his kids.  They were from Tijuana and they were so nice.  It was so awesome to see kids having fun riding their bikes and playing ball with their dad!  We love it when people get outside and have fun!

I could not sit still and decided to take mommy exploring on another trail that went through the campground.  I was feeling so good that I started running!  Mommy could hardly keep up since she was wearing her Ugg boots!  It made her so happy that I was running and feeling good!

We even stopped and played in the leaves for a bit!

We got back to camp at dusk and enjoyed another relaxing night.  The moon was so bright, it lit up our campsite!

The next morning, mommy enjoyed the beautiful sky while she rolled on her foam roller on the picnic table and did her back stretches.

She was throwing the ball for me and noticed that I could not find it as easily as I once did.  The doctor told her that where the tumor was would not affect my fine motor skills but may affect my thought process.  She had not noticed it before as she always hides my treats and toys and has me find them.   She is going to continue to make me think when we play to make me use my brains and all of my senses.  She feels confident that they will all return to normal soon.

We left camp around 11 a.m. after thanking our camp neighbors for being the best neighbors and talking to the Ranger about the area.  Even though I was not as excited as I usually am about chasing the squirrels, I had to chase a few for old time sake!  Man! There was some big ones!

I am happy mommy continues to do fun stuff with me. The doctor said that all he cared about is quality of life and we can not agree more!   I may not be hiking to the tallest peaks  anymore but there is no reason that I can not still have fun, be active  and enjoy life!

And who knows!  Mommy is going to continue to keep me moving so stay tuned because I just might surprise you!
