Be more like your dog

Have you ever wanted to be as brave as your dog and just let someone know how you felt about them?  I watch Jack with other dogs and he either:

  • Smells their behind because he is interested.
  • Plays with them because he likes them (it usually doesn’t last long).
  • Ignores them.
  • Growls at them to say stay away.

But what do we as people do when we are in the same area as someone?  We smile, make small talk and make the best of it even if we don’t want to all of the time!  Can you imagine if we growled and said,  “Stay away from me, I don’t like you.”  Or just plain ignored them and said  “I don’t feel like talking to you.”   I always picture a bunch of people entering a party and everyone smelling each others behinds! I thought that would make a really funny Saturday Night Live skit!
jackswimwebThis came to my attention one day and it had me thinking about the differences.    I took Jack swimming at Penasquitos waterfall.  It was a weekday morning and there was nobody on the trail and nobody at the waterfall when we arrived.  It was so peaceful and I was really enjoying the tranquility of watching Jack swim and enjoying the peaceful moment after a long weekend away, I needed some Jack time.  We weren’t there 5 minutes and 3 people showed up with a German Shepard.  They came down and sat right next to me and was trying to get their dog in the water.  I have to admit, I was annoyed.  They were invading my peaceful moment with my dog! Of course I spoke to them nicely, commented on the fact that their dog had never been swimming and made small talk.  Jack on the other hand wasn’t so friendly.  As soon as the dog got up enough nerve to jump in the water, Jack growled at him and the large German Shepard came flying out of the water!  It was pretty funny!  Here was little Jack not one bit afraid to let that giant dog know that this was his space and to GET OUT!

After a few minutes, we had to go and  I had Jack get out and we left to run alone on the trail and I noticed as soon as we left, so did they and then the area was vacant again. They say everything happens for a reason, I wondered why that had just happened!  haha  Don’t get me wrong.  The people were super nice and friendly and the dog was funny to watch but  I had just been away for a long weekend and just wanted to chill out with my dog alone.

Feeling this way  has never happened to me before (that I can remember) but it made me  wonder if anyone else ever feels like they could be more like their dog and just TELL IT LIKE IT IS!  Let us know your thoughts and if this has ever happened to you?
