We left the Glacier Parkway and drove south on the 93 to start heading toward home. Before long we were back in B.C.
We were happy to see this area of the Kootenay National Park on a nice day because when we drove up the 1 through the Glacier and Revelstoke parks, it was smoky. Plus, we got to see the Continental Divide. Mommy let me decide which way we were headed and I picked the Pacific because I miss my daddy!
We drove until we reached Radium Hot Springs. Mommy was at hot springs that were along a river 20 years ago when she was here and was hoping to find them again but the only ones here were the commercial ones.
We drove into town and thought this Ram was a statue but then it moved right into the middle of the road! We couldn’t believe it!
We pulled into a parking lot to watch it and the locals said that they hang out in town. So cool! Then we headed up the hill to the campground and this guy greeted us!
We camped that night at Redstreak campground. We saw It was a HUGE campground and not really our style but we were tired of driving. Plus, it was practically empty so there were not people all around us.
It ended up being a score! Mommy got her stretching and rolling in on the picnic table and a little workout in at the playground next to our camp.
We then took a 3 mile run/ walk on the trail..
And of course found stairs…
The trail took us to the Radium Hot Springs but the only pool that was open was the big one and we were pretty sure that they were not going to let me in…
We headed back to camp. Mommy then got a hot shower and got the RV all dumped and re-filled with water so it was a good stop! We had to wait for the turkeys to cross the road before we could head down the hill back into town…
The visitor center was at the bottom of the hill so that was our next stop to charge the laptop and use their Wi-fi so we could figure out our next stop. Plus, mommy left her credit card in the gas machine so she had to cancel that which was a real bummer.
When she was leaving, guess who was waiting for her outside the door?
He brought his girlfriend to hang out with him this time…
We headed south and crossed the border back into the U.S. The border agent did not ask mommy much. She had all of my papers ready and the only thing he asked her was about alcohol and something about fruit or vegetables so she offered him her last banana which he declined with a smile. He was really nice and was actually joking with her. She purposely went across small borders in the middle of farm county so that may have had something to do with it.
We are now back to gallons and mph instead of liters of gas and km!
We traveled approx. 1600 miles in our 9 days in Canada and spent $500. On gas. The cheapest gas that we found was 1.10 / liter = $4.16/ gallon. But it was worth it. We had a great time!
Now we are in Idaho and traveling between the fires in Washington and the fires in Montana. We drove through a fire along the lake but it wasn’t too smoky.
We headed to a campground called Green Bay in the Sand Point area. I was super excited because it was a beautiful day and the campground was supposed to be on the lake.
Mommy drove far down a road and then got on a bumpy dirt road for 2 miles. It was crazy! She had to get on top of the RV four different times to break branches off so that we didn’t damage the air conditioner on the top of Spirit. She was so upset that we went to that campground and then to make matters worse, we got there and the gate was up and the campground was closed.
I thought mommy was going to start crying. And of course I was crying cause I wanted to go swimming and we weren’t even near the lake yet!
She had to turn around and drive back up that bad road! She got to a little tiny town called Sagle, on the lake and stopped so that I could swim!
She went in the store to ask the man where we should camp and he said we could stay in the parking lot on the lake if we wanted. Man! Mommy gave him a HUGE hug and to pay him, she bought ice cream from him! She was double happy cause she got to get huckleberry and blackberry ice cream.
So, we spent the night on the lake after all! It was CRAZY windy that night and the next morning so we didn’t get to go paddle. The universe sure does work in mysterious ways! All mommy wanted was a down day so it was perfect. She hung out in bed and read while I rested.
We took a walk and met the neighbor, Don, and he invited us on his deck so mommy could use his Wi-fi and plug. He said we could stay another night and plug the RV into his 220 outlet in his garage! Everyone was so nice there.
It was time to go do something so we headed to Round Lake so that I could swim and mommy could get a little paddle in. It was little all right! She had to do laps around the lake but at least is wasn’t crazy windy!
It was a pretty lake with Lili pads….
And a trail around it so we kept going to shore and checking out the trail….
I was a happy boy because I got to swim…
Mommy paddled into the cove and hit a rock and we both fell in! It was pretty funny!
We just spent the night there and left super early the next morning to get on the road for our long drive to Bend, OR to visit our friend Gina again. It seems to be the only place that is not full of smoke, freezing or raining. We look forward to spending time in Bend because it is a super cool area with lots of hiking and lakes.
We stopped at Coeur d’alane to get gas and for mommy to get a coffee and we FINALLY saw a moose!! There were lots of them all over the city. It was a really pretty town on a HUGE lake!
The drive was VERY long but I was very relaxed because mommy had her diffuser going in the car..
When we got close there was a really big swimming pool but mommy didn’t stop. She said it was called the Columbia River Gorge and Oregon is on one side and Washington was on the other!
We were in 3 different states on that drive. Idaho, Washington and Oregon and after 486 miles we were finally there. Stay tuned for our visit in Bend. We had a super fun time!
