Sycamore Canyon 100k

20150228_102319-1180x664Our runners have really come a long way!  On Saturday February 28th, two Leash Your Fitness run teams completed the inaugural Sycamore Canyon 100k in Poway AND came in 1st and 2nd place for women’s relay teams!  The 4-person teams were made up of Danielle Casteel, Lisa Peterson, Diane Cheryll and Stephanie Oba (1st place!); Naomi Hillery, Cathy Hardalo, Ana Chacon, and Nicole Kuczak – with pup Dash for 1 lap (2nd place!).  Jessica Morrell deserves a shout-out too for training all the way up to the event.  Unfortunately she was injured and could not race, but still made it out to support!

The race consisted of nine 6.8-mile loops, so allnaomi runners completed two loops while two runners (Danielle and Naomi) ran three loops.  The course was a figure 8 through the canyons, with the lower circle switching directions every other lap, which means we were seeing our other team’s members out there and could cheer each other on!  Despite some seriously tough hills (Cardiac Hill – really?!), all runners came in UNDER their projected times, partly due to the on-and-off rain and cool weather, but mostly because they trained HARD!!  It was a brutal course, with only 9 of 22 solo runners finishing.  We are extremely proud of how much work these runners put in and how everyone supported one another from start to finish!!

stephThis event was completed by both new and veteran runners.  Danielle only began running in October 2014 and after working with our run class, ran nearly 21 miles in one day only 5 months later (check out here story HERE).  We LOVE beginners so come check out the trail running class and see what YOU are capable of!  Stay tuned for more from our runners – they will be running a Ragnar relay in Zion in April and the Spartan run in Temecula in September!  Better yet, JOIN US!!  We’ve never seen such a supportive group of runners and can’t wait for our future adventures!
