Last Friday we took advantage of the time change and a full moon and went on a night hike up Cowles Mountain! We had a really fun group of 12 Leash Your Fitness hikers and their pups which included some old friends and some new faces.
Cowles Mountain is the highest peak in San Diego city limits at 1,592 feet, and the trail totals about 3 miles round trip. At times the trail was steep, but all of our hikers and dogs were up to the challenge! We were so lucky to have a perfectly clear night and throughout the hike we had sprawling views of the San Diego County lights. It was also unseasonably warm, which made for very comfortable hiking conditions!
As we climbed, we could see the moon starting to rise on the other side of the peak. By the time we reached the top the full moon was bright in the sky to help light the way! Once we reached the top we set up a picnic pot luck – there were lots of yummy treats like dried fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips and guacamole, and homemade pumpkin bars. And of course – lots of treats for the doggies! After the picnic we climbed back down the mountain and did a little bit of stretching – and of course thanked our pups for being the BEST hiking partners!
All in all we had a successful full moon hike and started off our weekend RIGHT! Can’t wait to do it again soon! Check our Events page for more fun hikes and activities coming up! For more photos from our hike, see the gallery below. We hope to see you soon at one of our upcoming events!
