Monday Move It: Walking Lunges

Time for a Monday MOVE IT exercise to add to your dog walk this week!  Walking lunges are a great leg and butt exercise to add to your walk because they strengthen multiple lower body muscles, increase your heart rate, and help you work on dog obedience by keeping your dog in a heel.  Watch this video to help with proper form. You can always practice in a mirror before you leave on your walk to be sure you are doing it right!  Remember:

-As you step forward, lower your back knee to almost touch the ground

-Keep the front knee at a 90 degree angle. The knee should be aligned with the ankle

-Use your glute and core strength to lift yourself up to standing again – if you are finding it difficult to stand up take slightly smaller steps

-Keep your core tight throughout the movement and don’t forget to breathe and smile!

Start by alternating legs and doing 5 per leg on your next dog walk.  Add 5 more per leg each time you take your pup out.  You’ll be seeing a stronger lower body before you know it!!
