Helen Woodward sure does put on a fun Surf Dog event every year. This year, the weather was HOT, the crowd was loving the action and the vendors were giving away TREATS! It was the perfect mix!
he weekend started on Friday when we did an interview at KUSI for the event. Its always fun to be on the news even though they don’t give me any treats! You can see us HERE!
The Surfing Event draws tons of people and there was a huge crowd taking photos and cheering the dogs on.
I am wondering if your dog has your dog ever tried surfing? Some LOVE it and others aren’t really thrilled with it. I have to say that I am in the middle. I LOVE the water part and the jumping off of the board part, since I do LOVE to dock dive. I love riding the waves but I am not thrilled about the falling off part!
This past weekend I have to admit, that I did pretty darn good on the board and my daddy did a good job helping me. I hate it
when mommy helps me because she isn’t very good at pushing me in the waves. I am FINALLY learning that if I stay in the back of the board, that I can ride it further. Ok, so I am a slow learner and it took me 3 years to realize this but you know what they say, better late than never and mommy didn’t give up on me! Mr. Tuff surfed better than me and won. He is so little you can hardly even see him on the board!
It was such a fun day! I got to see all of my friends and the best part was playing in the water with my Wubba. I love to do that more than anything! If you don’t believe me, check out THIS video. I was YELLING at my mommy to HURRY UP!! There were lots of dogs playing in the water and there were even SHARKS running around on the beach!
But I liked seeing my friend Laura Nativo, she sure is pretty and Preston Casanova is a little trooper! My friends Antonio and Herbie got to be in the Stand Up Paddle Board Parade next to Preston, mommy didn’t enter me in the SUP parade because she was afraid I would whine. I do that sometime when we SUP because I really just want to be in the water!
We got to watch my friend Dozer win not only his division but the entire contest! He is so cool and he doesn’t let all of winnings go to his head like some dogs do! His buddy Louie, another bulldog won in his division and came in 2nd overall. It is cool since they are best buds and practice surfing together!
Our friends at Ruffwear are so cool, since the sand was so hot and mommy forgot my booties, they let us borrow theirs and boy, was I ever happy!! I think that people forget that us dogs don’t wear shoes and our feet get sore when the ground is hot. Mommy was telling everyone on the beach but she thinks that their should be a sign when entering the beach but that is a whole other blog post and you can read it HERE!
We hope that you can introduce your pup to surfing and if not, just enjoy the photos that we have! A very special THANKS to our friend, Dale Porter. He is very gracious with his professional photos. We have included many in our slideshow so THANKS DALE!
