Book Review: Stay

Stay, the debut novel by Allie Larkin

What do you do when the person you believe is love of your life marries someone else?

In Savannah Leone’s case, she proceed to make a pitcher of grape Kool-aid, mix it glass-by-glass with vodka, drowning her sorrows- until the Kool-aid was all gone and it seemed she had somehow ordered a $6,000 puppy via the internet.

What do you do after that?

Stay is a is a heartwarming story of love, loss, and loyalty. The tale compares and contrasts the daunting task of raising a dog for the first time, and the equally challenging parallel that is coping with the curve balls and changes life throws our way. Stay is also about meeting new people, stepping out of the past and into the present, making new friends, accepting personal growth. Additionally, it’s about separating the things that are one’s lot in life from those we can control- making the decisions and choices that bring us to the life we wish to have, instead of just allowing life to happen to us.

This book is a great balance of comedy, craziness and caring. The characters are warm, real and relatable. It has something for everyone. I absolutely loved it.  Oh, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself compelled to make a pound cake- that is, if you can put the book down long enough…
