Take Your Dog to Work Day

This Friday, June 24th is the official, take your dog to work day!

First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International’s Take Your Dog To Work Day® was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTWDay by opening their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this one special day.

Don’t forget to get your pup ready!  Here are a few things that you may not want to forget:

1/ Does fido need a bath?  The 2 leggers in your office may be a little more accepting of a nice smelling dog than one that is suffering from smelly fur.

2/ Do you think fido will get bored in the office all day?  Take his/her favorite toy, a stuffed kong or bully stick–anything to keep fido busy while you are working.

3/ Don’t forget something soft for the floor! Our dogs aren’t “really” dogs–they are our children and as such–they don’t want to lay on the cold tile.  Take a bed, towel, pillow–anything that will make fido comfortable for his office stay.

4/ Water: fido isn’t going to go all day without drinking anything! Remember a bowl for water and maybe a few treats.

5/ It may be a good idea to keep fido on a leash while at work–maybe there is a dog park, beach or somewhere that you can let him run at lunch time. At least take him/her for a walk before the work day begins and once during the day.

It may be a good idea to have a back up plan in case fido isn’t office material.  Check dog sitters in the area to see if they will be available “just in case” or plan on making a quick trip home if it doesn’t work out.

Jack is very lucky–his mommy created a “job” around him so he gets to go to work with me EVERY DAY!  Our office is in various parks around San Diego.  Leash Your Fitness was created because I, Dawn Celapino, couldn’t bear leaving Jack behind when I went to the gym to train my clients or workout myself.  All of our workouts, events and social gatherings are centered around our 4-legged friends!

Have a great day at work–your day will go faster and you will be much happier with fido by your side!
