Grant Lake

Mommy was getting antsy since she hadn’t been anywhere since June so as soon as Labor Day passed and the kids were back in school, we were OFF in our RV on a road trip to the June Lake Loop near Mammoth, CA.

We left San Diego very early on a Wednesday morning.  The drive was pretty quick. We stopped at the Lone Pine visitor center where 2 years ago we stopped and then ended up taking a detour up Mt Whitney (as far as dogs are allowed!).  This time, we just took a photo and kept on going.

We arrived at  June Lake early afternoon.  It sure was pretty!

We looked at both of the campgrounds there and decided they weren’t for us.  The June Lake Campground was small and full and the Oh Ridge Campground was HUGE with plenty of spots, but none were on the water.  We did fill up our RV tank there though!

We drove through the little town of June lake and every campground that we passed was full.  We didn’t get discouraged cause our friend told us about a free place to camp on Grant Lake.  We turned off at the Grant Lake Overlook and took the little road down to the beach and we had it all to ourselves!  PERFECT!  I couldn’t wait to get in the water.  Check out the video HERE.

It was perfect timing cause as soon as we got set up, it started to rain.  It was pretty cool to hang out in the RV overlooking a lake while it poured down rain.  Mommy was excited to get to wear her rain boots!

It was a beautiful evening and a great start to our little get away!

The next day, it was AWESOME! I jumped out of the RV and was ready to go swimming!  Mommy inflated the SUP and we took off on the lake.  It was like glass.  We pulled over in a few coves and did a little exploring…

There were tons of roads on the back side of the lake where you can camp if you have 4 wheel drive.

The mountains are really pretty!

Most of the day, I swam and mommy paddled.  It was perfect!

We paddled 5 miles up to the Dam on the other side of the lake.

We got off and went to see the view from on top of the Grant Lake Dam.

Then we had a snack and started the paddle back.   We love being on the water together.

I took a BUNCH of swim breaks.  Mommy joined me a few times.  The water was cold but it felt good cause the air was warm.  Plus I got to roll around in the sand, which is always fun!

Mommy was laughing at how little the Grant Lake Marina is.   There are slots for 10 boats and a little fishing shop.  There is a camp ground at the top, but no sites are on the water like we have!

We paddled all the way to the other end into the little cove by our camp.  The creek leads to Silver Lake so we went as far as we could!

It was a perfect 10 mile paddle with hardly any wind!

We got back to camp and I was so tired that I forgot to sleep on the nice Kurgo bed mommy has for me.

We hung out at camp for a bit then our friend, Stephanie came and picked us up and took us to Sliver Lake to paddle.  We can’t wait to show you how cool that lake is.   You will have to stay tuned for the next post because I am tired….

Thanks for reading about our adventure! We hope it inspires you to go out and have some fun! Check out Silver Lake HERE!
