Setting Goals

Hi Everyone!

Dawn here!  Jack is taking some time off and we are going to chat about setting goals!  I set a BIG business goal last month and I worked hard to make it happen but I also did something called “visualization”.   Have you heard of it?  Many athletes use it.  It is when you visualize yourself right where you want to be.  Whether it be crossing a finish line or speaking in front of a group of people.  Your brain is VERY powerful so  you can use it in a way to tell your body what is going to happen.  Have you heard of the book “Think and Grow Rich“?  That book is based off of this concept.

Don’t worry about HOW something is going to happen.  Just set your mind to doing it and continue to not only “visualize” it but write it down and say it out loud in the present moment.  “I AM crossing the finish line with a big smile on my face!”

Believe me, this totally works and I have used it numerous times.  You can’t just sit back and only visulize, you do have to work toward your goals but if you want it bad enough and you “put it out there” the universe will have your back!

That brings me to my next BIG GOAL!  I am turning 50 next month.  I have been so busy with my businesses and traveling that I haven’t really planned anything for the big day. I was having lunch with our Trail Dogs Run Coach, Naomi last week and asking her what kinds of races that they had coming up.  They just “happened” to have a 50k ( 31.1 miles) coming up in September!    I thought about it for 30 seconds and since the sign up was opening the next day, I took it as a sign to SIGN UP!  Our Trail Dogs team are very inspiring and many of them have come from barely able to run a 5k to now doing adventure races and honestly, I am jealous and hate missing out!

With Jack suffering from arthritis in his paws, we retired from running over a year ago and we hiked very little this past season. As much as I HATE to leave my boy at home, my body and mind needs to be back on the trails and getting some cardio so what better motivation as to sign up for something that is going to be CRAZY HARD and FAR out of my comfort zone!

So, the next day I got my old run shoes out and hit the trails.  Needless to say, first up, I need a new pair of shoes!

I ran 3 flat miles with a lot of stops to stretch. My legs were tight and I didn’t want to push it with these old shoes. Don’t want to start off with an injury!

My motto is, “If I am training,  then everyone is training so our Saturday, Butt, Gut and Strut with your Mutt class hit the beautiful trails in Balboa Park and I found us a hill with stairs to work on.  It was such a beautiful trail and the girls loved it!  They love the challenges that we throw their way and everyone goes at their own pace so it is perfect motivation!

Then off to Laces Running Company  in Scripps Ranch.  I went to grab myself a new pair of trail shoes!  Shoes are VERY important when you are running. I only trail run so you want to get trail shoes that will stand up to the rocks, roots and dirt! We love the people at Laces, they are super helpful!  Their shoes have a 30 day money back guarantee so you can try them and make sure that they are right for you. Plus, they are dog friendly!  If you go, let them know that we sent you for 15% off your shoes!

Week One!

Tuesday, I foam rolled my legs and then oiled up so that my back and lungs would handle my first real run without hating me.  I did a quick shot of Ningxia for extra energy and then I hit the trails again to try out my new shoes!  I even put a little “believe” oil on so that I would get my emotions in check.  I need all of the help that I can get right now! Let the training begin!

I did a loop in Scripps Ranch and ran 5 miles.  Man!!  That first mile was TOUGH  but I got through it and felt great!  So nice to be back on the trails.  I got “the look” from Jack when I left and it broke my heart. He doesn’t understand why he can’t go.  Jim said he sat and stared at the door for 30 minutes and then started crying.  I wish I could push him in a stroller but that wouldn’t work on the trails that I run on plus, I don’t think he would like it.  We BOTH just have to deal with it because now I HAVE to do this!  Plus, he was excited to see me and I took him for a walk while I recovered and stretched! Win-Win!

The next day, my calves and hamstrings were SORE!  I have to start slow because I don’t want to get any injuries.  I soaked in Epson Salts and Panaway works wonders for your muscles so put a few extra drops in the tub!  Want any info on the Essential Oils that I am using or want to get some, go HERE

I have never ran over 12 miles and haven’t run much in over a year but…. I am committed!  My #0to50 on our Leash Your Fitness Instagram and Facebook pages is hopefully going to keep me going and maybe you can cheer me on!  I hope to inspire YOU to set a crazy goal and GO FOR IT!

I will share my journey with you in hopes that you can see that it may be challenging but it will give you a new sense of adventure that your life just may be lacking!                     Just get some new shoes and DO IT!
