Shasta Lake

Leaving Bend, OR is always sad for us.  We just love it there, it is our 3rd time.  Check out all of the cool things we did this time around HERE.

We headed down a new road and the trees were sad.  Not sure if they were bare from fire, logging or bugs.

It was a 4 hour drive from Bend to Shasta Lake.  We keep going south to get into nice weather. It is supposed to rain and get cold in Bend.    Since we were going to have a special guest join us, mommy found a campground so it would be easy to find us.  We headed to Lakeshore East Campground.   We got a site on the lake although because the lake was low, we had to boulder hop to get to it.

We took a walk to the lake so that I could go swimming in the warm water!  I was so happy and we took a walk through the campground.  There was only one other person and the camp host there.   It was small but it was fine for one night.

Guess who showed up?   My daddy in his new Mercedes Sprinter van!

He was at my Uncle Mark’s house in Gold Beach, OR fishing so he met us on his way home.  We were happy to see him and have him experience life on the road with us for a few days.  We were all looking a little scruffy so it was perfect!

He made us a yummy salmon dinner and we slept really well!  The next day, we inflated the SUPs and carried them down all of the rocks to the lake and daddy carried me so I didn’t hurt my feet…

We took off in the warm water and it was a beautiful day!

Daddy fished while mommy and I explored..

There were tons of coves to swim to…

Mommy and I paddled 7 miles and we found a killer place to camp that was FREE and right on the water!  We docked the SUP and checked out the area…..

We paddled back and found daddy to tell him.  I could not decide who to ride with.  It is confusing when mommy and daddy are together and it makes me cry and bark cause I don’t know what to do! So I swim back and forth between them….

….and then I ride with daddy for a few minutes until I can’t take it anymore and then I swim to mommy…

But daddy catches fish so that is cool although I only like to eat or roll in dead fish, I am not quite sure what to do with alive ones…

We passed some cool bridges along the way….

And then the wind picked up and took us home.  It was a big difference from what we usually experience and have to paddle against the wind so it was super fun! You can watch the video HERE.

When we got back to camp, daddy was really tired.  He is not used to hanging out with mommy.  She paddled 11 miles total and he probably paddled 6 BUT he caught a ton of fish!  The nice part was that we didn’t have to deflate the SUPs, they fit in his Sprinter van.

We packed up and moved to our new site.  It was off of exit 698 and only a mile off of the freeway.  Mommy shot a screen shot of where it was so it was super easy to find.

We met some new friends there.  These guys were so funny! The guy in the wheelchair caught a turtle on his fishing line!

We watched the beautiful sunset…

and crashed early…..

The next day, it was so beautiful!  The water was like glass and the sunrise was so pretty!

Mommy sat and enjoyed the relaxing morning.  Daddy drove to town to get some groceries so she just sat and reminisced about the amazing time that we had and all of the people that we have seen on this trip.  It is so crazy how many people that we know in the Pacific Northwest!  Just look at them all…..

Mommy was laughing cause we always seem to find campsites next to trains.  This one was extra cool though. The train was in the sky!  It sure does make you appreciate what goes into getting goods to us in a timely manner..

Daddy came back and fished for a little bit while mommy made her famous oatmeal….

Daddy decided that his legs hurt and he didn’t want to SUP so he painted….

While mommy and I went on another SUP session.  We paddled to the very end and found another camp spot but not as cool as the one that we are staying at.  Can you see Spirit?

Then we paddled back to see if daddy wanted to join us…

and daddy got a picture of mommy acting goofy…

Daddy didn’t want to join us so we went on another 9 mile paddle.  It was so nice out……

and the water was so warm,  I loved swimming in this lake and climbing up the rocks…

The rocks kept changing colors….

We paddled out to the big lake and found ANOTHER camp area.  We climbed up it and walked around to check it out….

and we saw a few islands that we were going to SUP to but the wind was starting to pick up again….

so we headed back toward camp.  I took a nap on the way back….

We got back to camp and hung out. I got to swim and mommy got to read and daddy went on a bike ride. It was a great afternoon.  A few more people joined our camping area and I tested out their dog food as fast as I could cause I knew I was going to get in trouble!   I figure if their dog is not eating it, then it is fair game!  Anyone else with me on that?

Then we watched the sunset…

The next morning we woke up and our friends the ducks came to visit us.  They were pretty cool looking…

We then packed up and left. I was sad to leave this perfect spot but it was time to start heading toward home. Mommy just got done telling daddy that Spirit was so dirty and needed a bath and wouldn’t you know that the universe delivered AGAIN!  We stopped to get gas and right across the road was a FREE area where mommy washed Spirit, they even had a long handled brush.  She was so happy!  Spirit was glowing!

While she was there, she got an oil change and everything checked at Premium Oil Change.  There were 5 guys working on Spirit!  They were so fast and much cheaper than San Diego.  We highly recommend this place!

Anyhow, on the road to our last stop.   It is somewhere new for us so stay tuned.  We will let you know how it is!
