We were really bummed to leave Baker Lake, Washington on the most beautiful day of our stay but everything happens for a reason.
We stopped at the Shadow of the Sentinel walk to see some really old and BIG trees on our way into Burlington. The interesting thing about these trees are that the lacy branches “comb” moisture out of passing mist and fog. The moisture drips down to the forest floor and helps to maintain the lushness of the forest.
Mommy got a lot done before we headed into Canada. The house battery didn’t seem to be charging, that is why we left camp. I guess we had just been sitting there too long because by the time we got into the little town, it was charging. We got everything filled and dumped in Burlington and mommy went to Starbucks and got all of her work caught up while I rested. FYI, there is a Camping world with a free dump station there. They checked our battery and tires too!
Off to Canada we went. Since I didn’t get a swim in, mommy found a lake that she could sit and eat her dinner and I could swim but it was disgusting so she wouldn’t let me swim. I was pretty bummed.
Every website that mommy went on said something different as to what you are allowed into Canada so mommy ate ALL of her fruits and veggies in one last salad. It was pretty funny but she said it was yummy. She also read that you couldn’t take poultry or raw dog food across and since I eat raw turkey, that was a problem. So, she ripped all of the labels off of the containers and bought me a cheap bag of dogfood in case they asked. What she didn’t realize is that she had on her Soul’y Raw tank top on when she crossed the border! She thought that rather ironic!!
Going across the border was so simple. We didn’t go through at the main border crossing, we opted for small one on the 539 near Lynden. The guy looked at Spirit and asked if we were going to be doing business or any trades—NOPE! Do we have any guns—NOPE! He didn’t even ask about the fruits, vegetables OR poultry!! Mommy ate everything for nothing!
But we made it across and now we have to change the name to Jack’s Journey International!
We headed north up the 99 toward Whistler. It was a really pretty drive past Vancouver and Langley. We went across cool bridges….
And it was very scenic….
It was a Saturday during a holiday weekend so we were happy that there was hardly any traffic. We ended up stopping in the town of Squamish.
It was a really cool little rock climbing and outdoor adventure town. It had a little harbor so we took a walk. Mommy loaded up on vegetables. Man! Groceries are expensive in Canada. There were campers parked everywhere so we just stayed in a parking lot for the night.
The next morning, we got up super early and headed toward Whistler. It was a beautiful sunrise drive.
We headed up the mountain to the area were the 2010 Olympics were but we got there before the gates opened. There were “Watch out for Bear” signs everywhere so we took a walk, hoping to see a bear but no luck!
We headed into town and it was very confusing and the sun was in mommy’s eyes so we finally just paid for parking and took a walk to the visitor center to get information. Honestly, they weren’t much help but we got some books about the area.
We were parked right in the village so we went for a walk up to the Upper Village of Whistler where the skiers go. We passed over a nice bridge and of course I had to check out the water. They were having a HUGE farmers market. Everyone was setting up. Lots of cool stuff. I am glad we got there early because I can only imagine how crowded it gets. We do not like crowds!
I was so over all of that tourist stuff and just wanted to go swimming! We found the nearest lake. Alta Lake had a park called Rainbow Park. It had a dog beach and a huge grassy area for people to hang out.
When we got there the parking lot was empty. When we left, 5 hours later, the beach was packed with people. The parking lot and both sides of the street as far as you could see were jammed packed with cars!
It was a really cool lake. It even had a little island…..
We went to the “island” and checked it out..
I found the perfect house for us….
There were no jet ski’s or big boats. Only these cool floating party docks with little motors on them.
It wasn’t a huge lake but we had so much fun…..
We swam and relaxed and met some new people that gave us information on the area. One lady said that Whistler is zoned for different types of housing. If you own in some zones, then you must rent your place and only live in it a few weeks out of the year. If you are zoned in other areas, you can rent it part of the time. They want to make sure there are places for the workers to live.
It was a really fun afternoon and I am happy that we got there when we did cause mommy would have never fought all of those cars and people to get to the park.
When we left, we found a little hike to check out. It was called Nairn Falls. We hiked down the trail to the waterfall.
This waterfall was cool cause it was in sections. The first section fell into an area and created a whirlpool and then the water went under the rocks…
The second area was REALLY flowing hard. Mommy said there was NO WAY that I could swim there! You can watch the short video HERE.
The crazy part was that there is a snake there called the Rubber Boa. It looks like a stick and only grows to about 18” long. It feeds on the rodents. I don’t think it is poisonous but probably a good thing we didn’t see one!
We met a very nice couple from the Netherlands there. It is so fun meeting people that are traveling from all over the world!
That night we spent the night in the library parking lot in Pemberton. It was a level lot and we had free Wi-Fi! It was another cool little mountain town that had a ton of trails surrounding it. We met some very interesting people there. Very helpful.
