Have you heard the good news? My tumor is shrinking! We are all so happy. If you didn’t know the story, it goes like this….
On October 9th, I had a seizure. It was scary and mommy and daddy kind of flipped out and took me to the vet right away. You can read that story HERE.
Then a few days later, I had another seizure and long story short we found out that I had a large brain tumor! We transferred all of my info to the California Veterinary Specialists (CVS) in Carlsbad and put together a plan to kill that sucker! You can read that story HERE!
I got the Cyberknife radiation and that was an interesting week. We are so lucky to have that technology here in San Diego. We encourage everyone in the area to explore that option if they have a brain tumor. We were even on the KUSI news talking about it with Dr. Proulx because a lot of people don’t know about it. After all of that, mommy started doing a ton of research on what she could do to help me live a quality life. She switched my food to Soul’y Raw and added bone broth and goats milk to my diet. She even makes me pup-cicles with them! They are yummy!!
She doesn’t feed me any carbs at all anymore. No wheat, corn, potatoes, starches of any kind, or fruit. Only roasted vegetables and protein. That is fine with me! Although there are a lot of treats that I can not have!
She was getting so much information from so many good hearted people that she had to decide to just stick to one source. She went with Nedra from Reiki for All Creatures because Nedra was the one that suggested that we go to CVS because they were up on all of the lastest cancer treatments and she was correct. Plus, she seemed to know a lot about many alternative treatments.
We immediately started using all organic essential oils. Frankincense is known for it healing abilities especially with brain health. We started diffusing that every single night with lavender. It helped relax us, helped our brain and smells really good!
Mommy also started rubbing my tummy with Copaiba Essential Oil in a little coconut oil. She does this to help my liver from the medications that I needed to take. I was originally on Prednisone and Phenobarbital. Mommy SLOWLY weened me off of the Prednisone and I did fine. She weened me off of the phenobarbital too but we think she did that a little too fast and I had another seizure 6 months after my first one and the day that we were supposed to leave on our 2 1/2 week adventure! So she put me back on phenobarbital for now.

Mommy loves the Young Living essential oils so much, that now she educates other people on how they can help their pets AND the people too. Because of mommy’s research on how many dogs get cancer ( 50%!) she went all natural in our house. She uses essential oils for cleaning, and everything. They are pretty cool so if you want any information on them, just let her know! She orders once a month and can get you anything that you need! Also, just a FYI, mommy also did a TON of research on essential oils and you can’t just use any oil especially on your dog because of their sensitive nose and you certainly can’t eat just any essential oil so please CONTACT her for any information before you purchase any.
Another few other things that I take are: Milk Thistle to help my liver process the medications; Turkey Tail for its immunity factors & cancer benefits; and Omega 3 for its anti inflammatory properties.
Mommy recently started me on CBD oil as well. It was highly recommended by many people although it is not recognized by the Veterinarians yet because of the lack of studies it has been shown to help with cancer and inflammation so we are trying it! We do one thing at a time to see how I react and what needs to be changed.
As you can see, mommy is trying everything to help me lead a quality life and it is working! We just got back from a 2 week road trip in Arizona where I got to swim in 8 different bodies of water! You can check out that adventure HERE!
But back to may good news! After we got back from the trip, it was time to see what was going on so mommy scheduled a MRI for Wednesday, May 10th, exactly 7 months since all of this nonsense began. Mommy was a nervous wreck and I just wondered why I didn’t get my breakfast? Dr. Proulx was so nice. When mommy picked me up, he told her the GREAT news.
ALL of the inflammation was GONE! The tumor had shrunk! And there were signs of dead tumor cells on the scan. That means that it is still dying off! Yayy!! Can you see the difference on the scan? The white part that is circled is the tumor.
He recommended that because my brain is still going through a transition period AND that once a dog has a seizure, they are prone to have another one that I stay on the phenobarbital for awhile longer. Mommy is going to SLOWLY decrease it to see what is the perfect dose for me especially since I am doing so many other alternative things. She does not like the side effects of medications but knows that sometimes you may need just a little!
I am feeling good. I don’t have the energy that I had 2 years ago when we did Jack’s Journey USA BUT I am still hiking, swimming, running and keeping mommy company on all of our adventures and plus I am 12 years old now and I am suffering from a bit of arthritis in my paws. That is why I wear booties when we hike, they help my feet feel better!
Mommy and I are happy to help anyone that is going through this scary scenario and that is why we are writing these blog posts. The chances are high that it will happen to your pup or someone that you know. More and more dogs are getting cancer in their head region because of all of the chemicals that we are exposed to and the dogs nose is 10,000 times more powerful than ours and they smell everything! Remember that pet insurance could mean the difference between your dog getting much needed treatment and not because you can not afford it.
