Update on Jack

It has been a month since I have given you an update on how I am doing.  Many of you follow me on Instagram and Facebook and we love seeing you comments so please keep them coming!

The last time that I checked in was when mommy took me camping back in November, one month post treatment.  I had an ok time but I was not myself. I didn’t even have the desire to chase squirrels!

It has now been 2 months post Cyberknife and mommy has been doing a lot to help me to heal and feel better.  She has been working with Nedra from Reiki for All Creatures on some liver points to help my liver process the medications that I am on.  So mommy presses on my back paws every night before we go to bed and after she rubs my belly with lotion.

The “lotion” is actually coconut oil with Copaiba Essential Oil mixed in to also help my liver and internal organs.   It smells good and it feels good when mommy rubs my belly.   She also puts more smelly stuff in a blower that she calls a diffuser.  She said that Frankincense, Lavender and Stress Away is good for relaxing me and helps my brain.   We are going to have a class on these in January so stay tuned for that!

She is also feeding me really good food and treats. She always did before but now she REALLY is!  No more cookies for me!  I only get meat based treats, I especially like the ones form Tigertail foods!  They are perfect for me because I do not have a lot of teeth left so mommy breaks them up small for me.   They have yummy food too!

The food I am eating every day is super delicious!  I get to visit Lisa from Soul’y Raw and she always gives me lots of treats and lets me clean her floor for her!  Mommy buys me mostly Turkey food but she mixes it up sometimes, I have even tried Quail!  I also get yummy bone broth and goats milk.    They are all nourishing my tummy and hopefully helping to keep the cancer away!  Cancer feeds off of sugar so no more for me!  Now I have to work on mommy, she has a serious chocolate problem!

The biggest change is that mommy decreased my dose of prednisone.   She messed up big time!   After I had my MRI after my second seizure, the doctor told mommy that I had to take 5 mg of prednisone every 12 hours for 2 weeks.   In all of the information that she was receiving at the time, she forgot the “2 weeks” part!   I have been taking it 2 times a day ever since!  Mommy just realized it a week ago and was mortified!  She immediately stopped giving me my second dose and within a week, I already feel better.  We are making the best of it and hoping that double dosing just made the inflammation in my brain go down quicker!    We are hoping that when we see the doctor in January for my follow up appointment, I can decease my dose of Phenobarbital too!    The doctor told mommy that we will probably do another scan in April to see if the tumor has shrunk, it takes that long to see any changes.

Mommy and I do not like drugs but realize that they are a necessary evil sometimes.  That is why we are doing everything that we can to help the process.  Mommy also has me on some kind of magic mushrooms called Turkey Tail.   They help my immune system & have anti-oxidants to help my brain too.  She puts Milk Thistle in my food to help support my liver and Algae based DHA to support my brain.

Mommy and daddy also noticed that I am weaker so they make me exercise every day. Daddy has a whole workout routine that he does with me in the living room. I have to jump and stand up and sit on my haunches, all to keep my legs strong.    I do balance exercises to strengthen my legs and core.

I have changed a lot since all of this happened and mommy has been very sad.  I lost my enthusiasm for almost everything except eating.  That is all I really care about doing.   I even opened the cabinet and helped myself to  the trash can one day while she was at work, I have never done such a thing.  Now, I have to work for my trash if I want it and that does not make me very happy!

I will still play a little with my favorite ball but I get tired very quickly.

And I still like to get really dirty and I love to dig.   I do it lying down!  I still get the job done, you can see how by watching this video.

Mommy does not want to complain because at least she still has me and has high hopes that I will get better when the meds decease and the inflammation goes down.  Plus, I read her energy so she tries very hard to stay happy!

The happiest she has been is when I was excited to go swimming at our friends house!  She decided right then that she was going to find a pool and start taking me swimming!

Already in the week since she took me off of 5 mg of prednisone, I have more energy and want to go on walks again.   We hiked up Mt Woodson with our Leash Your Fitness group and I was a little slower than usual but I had a little spunk in my step again!

I even brought mommy a toy when she came home one night.  I made mommy so happy because I hadn’t done that in 2 months!

My eyes are brighter and I am happy again, you can tell by watching this video of me playing in the water. Mommy was so happy that I was having fun!

We really appreciate all of the love and support that everyone has shown.  It means an awful lot to us.  We hope to continue to educate you on what we are learning and the process that we are taking.  It has been a life changer for sure,  but everything happens for a reason and maybe the reason is that we can help others in some small way.   Unfortunately we see many dogs getting cancer and we hope to be able to help them in any way that we can.  That is why we have done a blog on pet insurance, the importance of vegetables and we are going to start doing educational classes on essential oils, exercises to do in your home and other things.   Please feel free to sign up for our blog or newsletter on the right side bar so you don’t miss out!
