Tips for Packing for your Dog

Jack and I are off on another road trip.  We are taking Spirit to find water so we can get in some end of summer SUPing in before the weather turns cold.  I thought I would share our packing tips with you so you won’t forget anything for Fido when you venture off on your next trip.

  • Medications and/ or Supplements
  • Enough food for length of trip
  • Treats (don’t forget these!)
  • Extra leashes and harnesses
  • Dog tags
  • Vet records (just in case anything happens)
  • Dog bowls for food and water (a collapsible one for hiking
  • Dog life jacket (if you are going to be doing any water sports)
  • Dog booties or hiking gear
  • Small bottle of dog shampoo (if your dog likes to get dirty or roll in poop!)
  • Extra towels
  • You may want to get a seat cover and dog car seat too!
  • Dog Seatbelt (safety first!)
  • Optional:  Travel crate
  • Optional:  Dog bed (spoiled dogs!)

Let me know in the comments below if I forgot anything that you take.  It is good to have a checklist but whatever you do, don’t forget the treats!  We like Buckley brand!

Also, make sure where you are going is dog friendly.  If you read our book, Jack’s Journey USA, you learned that California State Parks and most National Parks do not allow dogs on the trails.
