This week’s Move It Monday focuses on how to get the most out of your movement with some post-workout snack tips! What you eat after your sweat session is super important for staying healthy and getting the full benefit of your workout.
So what should you have? Eating a healthy snack or meal with a mix of carbohydrates to replace energy stores, and protein to help rebuild the muscle fibers that were broken down in the workout process, is the ideal combination. This mix helps your body rebuild and recover faster, meaning you can get to your next workout sooner and with less injury risk, getting you the best results possible! If you are watching your carbohydrate intake, we have some high-protein snack suggestions as well. Here are some some of our favorite post-workout eats:
- Almond butter and banana on rice cakes
- Smoothie with yogurt and frozen berries
- Edamame (high protein)
- Turkey and cheese roll-up (high protein)
- Hard-boiled egg and a piece of fruit
- Trail mix or granola
- Hummus and pita bread

Don’t forget about Fido! Check out this post to get ideas for snacks to help your pup recover, too. And remember that you both should drink plenty of water after activity. What’s YOUR favorite post-workout bite? We’d love to hear from you!
