Killer Arms for Summer

Summer is fast approaching and wouldn’t you love to show off your “guns” this year?  Nobody wants flabby arms and there is no reason to have them!  Today I will show you two exercises that you can add to your dog walk.  Remember to “mentally” work your dog and have him practice his dog obedience while you are doing the exercises.  Reward him with a jog through the sand or grass in between exercises.

You can WATCH the exercises before you do them or below are detailed instructions.

The first thing to do if find a bar and NO not to drink alcohol!  Sometimes you will see bars like this in the playground or railings along walk ways work too.  Just make sure that they are secure.

  • Grip the bar with an underhand grip ( I shared the overhand back exercise a few weeks ago ).
  • Keep your elbows close to your body.
  • Hang down from the bar with bent legs.
  • Put your weight into the heels of your feet.
  • PULL your body up with your bicep muscles.  (front of arm muscles)
  • If you need some help, use your legs until you get stronger.
  • Slowly lower to the start and then repeat until fatigued.

To reward Fido for being a good girl/ boy make sure you take him for a little jog through the park and this will rest your arms as well.  This is also a great time to work on running if you wanted to just do little spurts to get started!

Return to the playground and then work the back of the arms, the Triceps.  Remember to put your dog in a sit or a down.

  • Find a bench or a stable piece of playground equipment.
  • Sit on the side of the bench with your hands alongside your body.
  • Slide down in front of the bench, bending your arms at the elbows.
  • Only come low enough that your elbows are at 90 degrees.
  • Push back up working the back of your arms
  • It is important to keep your arms close to your body and your body close to the bench.  You don’t want to put any strain on your shoulders.
  • Repeat until fatigued.
  • If you need to, bend your knees and have your legs assist you until you get stronger!

Triceps

Do another jog around the park and return to the bars for another set of bicep pullups!
