All Dogs Go to Kevin is a collection of memoirs written by veterinarian Dr. Jessica Vogelsang. The story begins with the passing of a close family friend, which prompts the author to think back to the day they met, and then chronicle her experiences through veterinary school and private practice. The title is a misnomer, coined by the author’s then two-year-old, after the loss of the family dog. The child, unfamiliar with the concept of “heaven”, confuses the word with one he knows- “Kevin”. Thus, the belief that all dogs pass on to be cared for by their beloved family friend is born. It is a comforting t concept that makes for a really cute title.

A great read, with a very poignant sentiment. I really enjoyed the stories, experiences and adventures in veterinary medicine, and appreciate the sharing of them. I have loved being able to go to my dogs’ former vet over the years, having an established relationship, and spending time talking over my own dogs’ needs. It was great to get some “behind the scenes” takes on common veterinary issues. There are some quite interesting (and entertaining!) tales. Reading this book really highlighted for me my current situation -new in town, trying to forge a relationship with yet another new vet who doesn’t yet realized I’m a seasoned pet owner who knows my stuff. I’d definitely take my pets to Dr. Vogelsang, if she were anywhere nearby.
