Stepdog by Nicole Galland

StepdogStepdog, by Nicole Galland

Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy meets girl’s dog…

Stepdog, is a very well-written and incredibly realistic telling of the “love me, love my dog” standard. Rory and Sara, once coworkers, become romantically involved, and then married, through a series of unexpected events. Rory must find his place not only in Sara’s home, but also in her relationship with her dog, Cody.

I feel that the author did an amazing job communicating to readers the plight of those “dog people” who happen to be in relationships with the “non- dog people”. I was very impressed with how Rory’s frustrations were expressed, and also how much- and how hard- he was trying to adapt to sharing life with a dog. Just when it seems things are going well, and it will all turn out, life throws the young family a curve ball… and then another… and another, resulting in a mad, cross-country race against time to reclaim Cody after some sneaky underhandedness.

This book kept me guessing, as well as keeping me on the edge of my seat. It took me by surprise more than once. Given Rory’s initial attitude, I wasn’t really sure I’d like the book, but I am really pleased with the whole tale and really enjoyed the read! Nicole Galland has done a great job! Quite possibly the best book I’ve read in a long time.
