This Move it Monday post introduces you to a training concept rather than a particular exercise: it’s called Every Minute on the Minute (or “EMOM”). This workout technique has you doing a particular set of exercises once per minute at the :00 mark. Once you are done, you rest for the remainder of the minute until the top of the next minute. Some of the benefits of this type of training are:
- Time efficient and makes the workout go quickly!
- Builds a skill such as running until you are ready to do it more continuously.
- Easy to do on your own, all you need is a watch or timer!
- Builds cardio since the exercises are usually done quickly to maximize rest time.
- Mixes up your usual routine or dog walk. Plus, keeps your pup engaged constantly for several minutes, tiring him out as well!
Here are some ideas for incorporating your pup into your next EMOM workout:
- Every minute for 10 minutes, run to a set point and back. Fido stays in a heel.
- Every minute for 15 minutes, complete 10 squats and 10 pushups. Your pup stays in a sit.
- Every minute for 20 minutes, run up a set of stairs and complete 10 triceps dips. Your dog should stay with you on the stairs and then sit while you complete the dips.
There are so many possibilities with this type of workout! You could even make it more intense by completing a difficult cardio move like sprints, suicide drills, or burpees. Time it so that you have just caught your breath before the next minute starts. This will allow you to fit in a challenging workout in very little time.
