If you have been following us on our Leash Your Fitness Facebook page, you know that our first 3 days have been a whirlwind! In 3 days, we have driven 1400 miles! We are very happy to have a little break out of the RV! No offense to Spirit!
We left San Diego at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28th and besides potty stops and a lot of fuel stops, we were in Spirit for 12 hours –DRIVING! Mommy had to take a few fresh air stops and let me run around in some grass to stretch my legs. I was a very patient co-pilot.
We arrived in Las Cruces, New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. NM time and mommy and I were so ready to walk around so we picked the first campground that we came to, Las Cruces KOA. Mommy picked a site where we were all alone in the back (#93) so I could run around in the grass since I was stuck in my dog seat all day. She is such a nice mommy!
We both slept great and while mommy was getting everything ready the next morning, I took advantage of the nice grassy area and I found some fresh poop to roll in! I was so happy! That is, until mommy found out and made me get a bath! On our first day!
We were so tired of the boring freeway so we headed up to the White Sands National Park. It was so much fun! Only about an hour out of Las Cruces, it was so fun to run around on the beautiful sand dunes! Check out our short VIDEO to get a little taste of what they were all about!
After we left there, we were ready to go hiking! We read on GoPetFriendly.com that Cloudcroft had some cool hikes so we headed up the mountain! The drive was MUCH more interesting than the boring freeway.
We stopped at the first hike that we came to, Grand View Trail! That sounded perfect! Mommy stopped at the little gas station to ask the old men hanging out there how to get to the hike and they even drew her a little map! It was a pretty hike overlooking the White Sands and it had pretty yellow flowers all along it. I was a little hot so mommy turned back and took me to the stream that the nice men told her about to cool off.
The town of Cloudcroft was really cool. We stopped and hiked to the Mexican Trestle. Mommy met another old man in that parking lot named Martin who wrote a book on UFO’s. He was really interesting to talk to so mommy hung out with him and chatted for awhile. He gave us the directions to hike to the Trestle. It was really cool!
After all of the fun of the morning and afternoon, it was time to get back in the RV and head toward Dallas. We didn’t want another 12 hour day so we figured we would split it up so we drove until 9:30 p.m. and stayed the night in a truckstop. It was a little scary driving at night with all of the truckers but thank goodness we made it and now only had 6 hours left to drive.
We got up the next morning and headed toward Dallas. OMG Dallas was VERY confusing and the little lady in the box that tells mommy where to go had her going around in circles so we pulled over and asked someone how to get to Allen, TX where our friend Arden Moore lives. It was pretty funny because the guy said it was far away! He didn’t understand that we had just drove over 1300 miles and another 45 minutes was not far away!
We arrived at Ardens and all of her pups were happy to see us! Jack got to reunite with his girlfriend, Cleo. We were all very happy, especially when we all got to go on a walk together! We even got to eat a dinner of classic Texas BBQ.
The next couple of days are busy! We are looking forward to being on Ardens Pet Life Radio show, teaching our Butts and Guts with Your Mutts class in Cedar Hill at Crawford Park and visiting our friend.
