Tip of the Week

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Dogs are extremely in-tune with your energy. It is instinctual for your dog to read your energy. They were born deaf and blind, so they learn their mother’s scent and respond to the energy around them. Ever notice when you are stressed, your dog seems stressed or anxious as well? Or when something exciting is happening, they have a lot of energy? Dogs respond to the environment around them. When something is wrong, the tend to be able to sense that and will act accordingly.

One way to keep your dog calm is to exercise and stretch. Include your dog in your routine to wear him or her out as well! Your dog will be happy to spend time with you and will enjoy “playing”. A happy dog is a happy owner. Leash Your Fitness provides a friendly, safe, and structured environment for exercising both you and your dog. At the end of the day, by calming yourself, you will be calming your dog.

Thanks!

Animal Planet spent the day with LYF

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Today Animal Planet spent the day with mommy and I.  They were filming a segment on “Small dogs that do BIG things!”  They liked the fact that I am so athletic and like to swim, hike, run, go mountain biking with mommy and most of all that I inspire other dogs to exercise with their mommy’s at our Leash Your Fitness classes.  They started the day interviewing Hollis since she has lost 35 lbs and Mango is now much more sociable than she used to be before starting to come to our classes. Then they went out paddle boarding with mommy and I.  That was the BEST part of the day as I got to go SWIMMING!!!  They took a lot of pictures of me jumping from the dock!! It was so fun!!  The day ended with them joining us during our Mission Bay class.  They  put a funny camera on Scooter–he was not digging those camera men one bit!!  All of the dogs kept barking at them–it was pretty funny!  But not as funny as Mango trying to attack the microphone because it looked like a furry animal!  It was a fun but very tiring day–it is tough work being a star!  Enjoy the pics!  We will let you know when the segment is available for viewing……..

R.I.P. Montana–you will be missed!

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Today was the saddest day in our Leash Your Fitness family.  Montana our grandpa dog that everyone loved was put to sleep forever.  He had lymphoma and woke up today unable to stand as it went to his spine.  Mommy had to carry him down the stairs and to class so that everyone could say good-bye to him.  We had a record attendance as all of his friends wanted to give him a kiss and pat on the head.  All of the mommy’s were crying and we even had 3 daddies come to class to say bye-bye.   Mommy was so proud of our Leash Your Fitness for pulling through in such a tough time. Thank goodness that Dr. Priti came to class and was able to do the sad deed of putting Montana to sleep after everyone was gone–she is the best vet ever as it was nice having a familiar face by our sides.   He got to have all of his favorites –popcorn, hotdogs, chicken and they even gave him a 3 musketeer bar–which was appropriate as me, Ginger and Montana were together till the end–the “3 musketeers!”  We will miss Montana so much and just so we wouldn’t ever forget him–daddy drew a portrait of him to hang on Miss Nancy’s wall.  We love you Montana and hope that you are running with the dogs in doggy heaven and eating as much popcorn as you can.   R.I.P.

Doga Yoga and Walk on the Water

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

What a BEAUTIFUL day for Doga Yoga on the water at the Em”bark”adero!  Tammy from “Find Your Sweet Spot Yoga” did a fine job of leading our Leash Your Fitness participants in the class.  We had 19 dogs in attendance and we collected 4 bags of donations for the Baja Animal Sanctuary and also gave them a portion of the proceeds from our class.   Fun was had by all and then we got to go to breakfast at Cafe Zucherro in Little Italy.  We kind of took over the place! Great way to start the day, we hope that you can join us next month on Sunday, July 25th for our next Doga Yoga class. Until then….

Grand Opening Event-Poway

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Mommy had her Grand Opening event in Poway today! It was a little cool this morning, so it was the perfect weather to sample some of what we do in the Leash Your Fitness classes. The instructors even turned some of the drills into a competition and gave out some water bottles and t-shirts for winning. Denise from K9 Care by Denise was also there giving some massages to some of my friends and Meagan and Kelly were there from Collared Scholar dog training making sure all of the dogs were doing what they were told. It was so awesome seeing a bunch of new faces, and even some of the old.

Everybody who showed up today got a wonderful goodie bag full of treats, thanks to some of our sponsors. Everybody who showed up also got a raffle ticket to win some awesome prizes, like some free Leash Your Fitness classes, treats, haircuts, massages, toys, and all sorts of amazing things. If one of the people brought anything to donate to the Baja Animal Sanctuary, they got an extra raffle ticket! The group was able to raise $60 and a bunch of towels, leashes, and food for the shelter.

Thanks to our sponsors for donating to today’s event: Markim Pet Resort, Cutting Edge K9 Rehab, Ciao Bella Hair, K9 Care by Denise, The Honest Kitchen, The Collared Scholar, and The Buried Bone

Poway classes will happen on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm at the Garden Road Park (map). Sign up for it on our website! Hope to see you there!

First Arthritis Foundation Training–Point Loma

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Today we had 6 incredible women show up for our first Arthritis Foundation FREE training program.  Leash Your Fitness is a proud sponsor of the June 5th “Let’s Move Together” walk and we are making our team stronger by providing training for them and their dog.  Colleen from Pawtopia dog training was there to assist with the dogs obedience and it was amazing how far they came in just one hour!  We did leg and arm strength, a little heart rate training and a little core work.  Each week the trainings will be in a new location!  We hope to see you at one of them!  ALL proceeds go directly to the Arthritis Foundation.

Woofstock 2010

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

I LOVE WOOFSTOCK!!  I got so many yummy treats from all of the nice people there!  There were a lot of dogs with vests on and they were all so very nice.  Some of the people were dressed kind of funny but mommy said that is how they dressed a long time ago.  I didn’t care because our booth was right beside a treat booth and their treats  were so yummy–did I mention that already??! We also got to have a couple little Leash Your Fitness classes and the participants had so much fun.  Can’t wait till next year!  I bet they raised a lot of money for the Canine Companions today –which is really cool!

Enjoy the pictures!
