Monday Move It: Walking Lunges

Monday Move It: Walking Lunges

Time for a Monday MOVE IT exercise to add to your dog walk this week!  Walking lunges are a great leg and butt exercise to add to your walk because they strengthen multiple lower body muscles, increase your heart rate, and help you work on dog obedience by keeping your dog in a heel.  Watch this video to help with proper form. You can always practice in a mirror before you leave on your walk to be sure you are doing it right!  Remember: -As you step forward, lower your back knee to almost touch the ground -Keep the front knee at […]

Doggie Dash 5k!

Doggie Dash 5k!

Sunday September 14th, Leash Your Fitness participated in the Doggie Dash 5k to benefit FACE: the Foundation for Animal Care and Education. FACE provides financial assistance for life-saving veterinary procedures for pets in San Diego County.  We couldn’t wait to support such a great cause!  The race took place at Roadrunner Sports and even though it was scorching hot day, we still had tons of fun!  We set up our booth and greeted lots of friendly people and dogs.  There was face painting, a pool with ice water for the dogs to cool off in, and even an agility course for the pups to try out! Coyote Safety

Coyote Safety

There seem to be a LOT of coyotes out and about in the San Diego area this year.  We’ve seen them on our trail runs, hikes, and even in our neighborhoods at all times of the day! In Scripps Ranch, the locals have set traps but unfortunately a dog got caught in a trap so we do not recommend doing that. We have heard of coyotes coming into people’s garages and snagging the dog from the garage and they can definitely jump over a fence or wall so please don’t think your pet is safe in the back yard […]

Monday Move it: Plank

Monday Move it: Plank

It is MONDAY so time for a new exercise for you to work on this week! Today’s exercise is the PLANK! It is an awesome shoulder AND core exercise.  A few things to remember: Make sure your arms are perpendicular to the floor, not out too far in front of your body Make sure you BREATH! Counting sometimes helps. Let it burn! If you think you are done, hold it for another 10 seconds, this is how you get stronger. Make sure you are “bracing” or “tightening” your core, if you don’t–it will hurt your low back If you start […]

What People Are Saying

I joined LYF so I could exercise with my dog and meet new people. After two months I noticed how better toned I was, after 9 months I was down two sizes and was more fit than I had been in a long time. Besides that, my friends without dogs are envious of how much fun I have, hiking, kayaking, surfing, running in a 5K. If you want to have fun with your dog, meet great people and get fit, come join us. — Diane
