Heading South from Portland

Heading South from Portland

Today we got a special surprise! Welcome back to our travels! If you haven’t been following along, feel free to catch up HERE!  So far we have traveled north from San Diego, CA  to Portland, Oregon and now it is time to travel south! Our special surprise was that my daddy flew into Portland and is going to be heading south with us.  I was really happy to see him BUT there is one part of this new development that I am not too happy about! I have to give up my seat to mommy so daddy can drive.  I […]

What the Dog Did by Emily Yoffe

What the Dog Did by Emily Yoffe

What the Dog Did by Emily Yoffe is a funny and witty memoir about a previously self-proclaimed “cat person” who is convinced by her family to get a dog.   The family adopts a beagle and names her Sasha.  As the author finds out, beagles are not the easiest breed for a first time dog owner – she relates the difficulties Sasha has with house-training, poor recall, and other strange behaviors.  Yoffe also writes about the experiences of her friends and family members with their four-legged children – some silly, some scary, some expensive.  She delves into interesting facts about dogs, canine evolution, and […]

Monday Move It: Triceps Dips

It’s Monday so lets GET MOVING!  For today’s Monday Move It exercise, we are going to work on triceps dips.  These are great to add to your daily dog walk because you can do them almost anywhere!  All you need is a low wall, a bench, a picnic table, or any other similar surface.  Add these along your walk and you’ll be rocking strong arms AND working on your dog’s sit/stay!  Watch the video here to be sure you have the proper form.  To do these dips: -Have your pup in a sit or down next to you and tell them […]

Portland Bound

We are sad that our last days of the first part of our Dog Friendly Road Trip are almost over.  We are on our way to Portland because mommy is speaking at the Women in the Pet Industry Network (WIPN) annual conference.  She is doing a talk on taking care of yourself while running a business and that is EXACTLY what she is doing on this road trip.  You can see that blog post HERE! You can hardly recognize her in a skirt! We found a campground in the Columbia River Gorge and of course I got to go swimming! […]

We fit lots of fun into our weekends here at Leash Your Fitness!  Not only do we have our regularly scheduled classes, but we have fun at special events across the county! On Saturday, Dawn had a booth and demonstrated several exercises you can add to your daily dog walk at the Rancho Bernardo Dog Park 10th Anniversary.  Naomi led a boot camp class to help raise money for two local rescues at the Fit4Fido event at Spanish Landing. Fit4Fido helps raise funds to support the rescue efforts of The Rescued Dog and Lionel’s Legacy.  The event featured fitness classes and […]

What People Are Saying

I joined LYF so I could exercise with my dog and meet new people. After two months I noticed how better toned I was, after 9 months I was down two sizes and was more fit than I had been in a long time. Besides that, my friends without dogs are envious of how much fun I have, hiking, kayaking, surfing, running in a 5K. If you want to have fun with your dog, meet great people and get fit, come join us. — Diane
